I was just thinking about this. Would it be worth making it only possible for you to view the advertising forums after you log in? It would stop guests from skimming down, seeing the advertising forum and going to another place.
Another idea I was thinking of was maybe having a minimum number of posts before a member can advertise in it, similar to how they need 50 posts before playing boot and immune. That would stop people from only coming here to advertise their site. They would need to be a bit of an active user before being allowed to advertise.
Just a thought about how it might prevent the advertising board from being abused. If they really want to participate in this board then 50 posts isn't too much to ask.
Anyone would understand that if they want to advertise here they should first support the forum a bit. It doesn't really help the site if a member comes in, makes a couple of newbie posts then advertises their own site.
Just a suggestion, I don't really know if you will agree with me but I thought it must be a bit annoying for people to come onto your site only to advertise their own website.

Agreed man that is a good idea im tired of seeing topics about buying a computer and shit when it should be about MK.
At least show a bit of dedication before you try and sell your shit.

The ones selling things are usually just spam bots that shouldn't be here anyway. Most are blocked but some have humans registering accounts for them.
I have nothing against off topic in the advertising forum, I myself posted a link to a Kanokon pettition I started. (Kanokon has nothing to do with MK)
I am meaning the ones who come here only to advertise their website. Whether a website is about MK or not I think it is abusing the forum a bit to register, post once in the advertising forum, maybe make a couple of other posts, "Hi I'm new!" "My Favourite character is Sub Zero," then leave and never come back having posted the link to their website. Maybe they planned to be here a bit longer, maybe they only made an account so that they could use the advertising forum. The fact that they don't stay make it look like the latter is most likely.
The advertising forum is a generous thing to put on a forum. This is why I feel that if a person wishes to advertise their website, MK or otherwise, they should first support the website they are advertising it on a bit.

Sounds like a good idea man. A forum is primarily for chatting about various things. There are people who do not want to have spam oozing throughout the forums. It's just a bad as littering.
