Who do you think is the most original character in Deception?
I think it's a 3-way tie between Onaga, Dairou, and Hotaru. They seem to have little or no aspects that tie-in to the older characters.
One could argue, however, that both Onaga and Dairou are not necessarily 'original' by the time of Deception, since both had been thought of by Deadly Alliance's time (for those of you who don't remember, Dairou was planned to be in DA but never finished).
Your thoughts?

Hotaru definitely had his own style to bring with his spear and armour, though Dairou is without question more original. He held more moves that all seemed to be different (almost all, especially Tombstone Drop), and his peculiar blade and fighting styles were ultimately fulfilling to the originality test. His look was different though his story was unoriginal should you see it from any other game/movie's view though I felt that kind of sentimental story was meant for MK, and he played the part perfectly.

Hotaru is definately the most origional. I can only remember SubZero and frost ever freezing the floor, his lava burst is awsome though. Although, I donb't think oponents get hurt for standing on it. Seems hard to block though.
His character as well, Havik may be the oposite, wanting chaos, but others before him have caused chaos. Hotaru seems to be the first tht would only allow order.
I wouldn't call Onaga origional. We always had Shao Kahn. Kahn just turned out to have over thrown Onaga who was a bigger, more powerful version of Kahn who once ruled before him.

You may be right about Onaga...even though he doesn't use a hammer lol...
As for Havik, I don't think he's original cuz he uses fighting styles that Quan Chi and Shang Tsung had, plus his slide move is like Reptile's.

Not really, Nathan, considering the fact that he uses his ENTIRE body to sweep his opponent off their feet. Reptile's slide is much like Sub-Zero's where he'll use his legs to sweep an opponent off their feet. Havik is his own character because not only is he a cleric of Chaos, and an opposite to Hotaru, who is a Seidan Guardsman, but he can distort his body in ways that are inhumanly possible. Being able to snap his own neck and snap it back into place, break every bone in his body for his "corpse taunt" special move, and break his legs so he can shoot a low projectile, but a powerful one, at his opponent. So, really, Nathan, the only things that don't make Havik an original character are his two hand to hand fighting styles in MK:D. The Snake fighting style and the Tang Soo Do fighting style.

Hotaru. Great storyline, well designed costume (I wish I could wear that armor or at least his helmet) and original moves.
The only thing I haven´t found original about him is his face and hair. I mean: white hair and totally white eyes. Haven´t we seen this somewhere already? Twice? 
Though my favorite character from Deception has always been Ashrah

Most original is defitnely Hotaru. He just has some of the coolest new moves when i first used him. Plus the whole thing from him being from the Orderrealm is new too.
For Ashrah though even though ed boon says in her armageddon trading card in the prenium edition that some fans said she's like a female version of raiden.
He didn't agree but i kinda agree with the fans. I mean she kinda resembles raiden with that spinning move she does and the way she does her projectiles might not be lightning but it's simular. Plus the hat she wears is almost simular to raiden's.

I thought she was more like Fujin with the spinning move, although the horizontal spinning could resemble flying thunder god. She does have a pretty origional story though, being a human like demon slaying demons to free herself from hell.
LOL, a thought about Hotaru's originality, I just relised that at one point Kira had disguised herself as a man. Remember what I said about Hotaru in my thead in the Armageddon discussion. I know what I said is just joking, but something else I noticed about "his" name

As you can see, Hotaru was the name used by female characters in both SNK and Sailor Moon. Could he have something in common with one of the more unoriginal MKD characters...

...yep, you caught her. She dresses up like a Seidan guardsman and teleports to Seido, barely coming back in time to go to a Black Dragon meeting. You must be a detective. Now we know who the true most original character is...Hokira.

I wasn't meaning that Hotaru and Kira were the same. I weas meaning my post in this thread about Hotaru, how only female created warriors get his helmet.

And also that Kira before joining the Black Dragon disguised as a man to sell weapons in Earthrealm, I at no point in my post implied that she disguised as Hotaru.
All this speaking of Hotaru here, One other thing about him, in Deception. Why the hell does Sindel have what should obviously be Hotaru's place in the Puzzle. Arrange would be perfect for him. What did they say, "No, we can't have any characters new to Deception in Puzzle. Lets just find the worst, stuppidest, weakest most pointless character we can think of ands give it Hotaru's place in the puzzle."

Ashrah's story is a take on Sareena's, but Ashrah's moves and fatalities are quite original, at least in MK.
She's the most modest female.
From evil Darkness to pure Light.
Wears the gaja.
Uses Voodoo, though I hope to see this as a special move soon.
The spin moves.
And the concept of the Kriss.

And I also like to consider her a natural opposite of Noob Saibot. I mean:
Good X Evil
white x black
demon who seeks to redeem herself x former human who have become demon
etc.
It would be nice to see these two face each other in the future. Because I think MK needs at least one decent girl vs. boy rivalry

I have never been a big fan of them, so I just forgot they exist. Though this fact doesn´t change my desire to see Ashrah/Saibot rivalry in the future

I apologize. That was a joke conceived of false words, heheh. About the puzzle I find it strange as well, though I think they were trying to increase the females as well use more popular characters. They had no idea if Hotaru was goin' to be popular or not. It wouldn't have made a huge difference except to Puzzle freaks like you.
