I feel that the storyline for Mortal Kombat is so expansive, yet vague that I believe it can market a decent book series or an OFFICIAL comic (not like the crappy malibu ones).
The film adaptations have strayed and somewhat bombed. The series(s) weren't canon and shortlived.
So, I feel that something like a graphic novel, comic, or book would do our demand for the storyline justice.
I say that we start a petition or something. Anyone agree?

Why petition? Should someone want to write a book or sketch a comic they will do it by inspiration. Those are always better than when the company pays another company to do them.
Actually I'd love (and think there's definitely the fan-base necessary) for one or the other to be released. They need a back-story to the original game that doesn't suck if you ask me, and if I could choose I'd say a book would be perfect. A graphic novel if anything else (I'd rather a book with illustrations such as the later release of The Dark Tower by Stephen King to help portray the characters).

Heh, and yet you have hit the nail on the head behind one of my many writting projects (because I can NEVER write enough)
I, myself and actually trying to write a cannon series of MK books, dating from MK1-MKA. I have taken a sort of animorph's book way about this, and dividing up the story into 'character chapters', or like chapters that just reolve around a set character/characters, and the story develops with each passing charcter. Though I have been noticing, that a task like this si hard as hell, due to there is a LOT to cover, and when working with 60+ characters, lifes a beach...

I would LOVE to draw a Mortal Kombat comic book series. Oh man. That would be a sweet job. But the comic would have to feature all character suit variations. I still like the old MK2 and UMK3 look better in some areas than the newer designs.
Im currently drawing a pin up of a fatality shot I never finished. Not too sure but maaaybe if I can find time in the future, I can draw some pages for an aspiring MK writer in TMK.com some day.

I love fan material. But despite how phenomenal and great it is, it lacks the one thing I want, which is canonity. I'd prefer something official because then I'd know it was the real stuff. But I definately don't want just anyone to be writing it. It has to be someone with MK knowlegde as well as favor and personal permission from the MK team.

Well, here´s an idea:
Vain will write the book. Dark Specter will draw some pictures. And I will steal the project and become a rich man.
Everyone will be happy:
-Fans will get canon book even with pictures for those who are lazy(or unable) to read and enjoy just glazing at the pictures. Even I will be finally able to enjoy a book!
-DS and Vain will become happy, because their work was worthwhile. I mean... They do it for the fun of it. Not for money!
-Jay will get 5 dollars for the idea.
...and KK will get 5 cents to not tell anybody 
I´m just trying to say that I really like the idea

Haha who says Vain and Dark Specter would let you just steal there hard earned work on what they do to the book they'd probably beat the hell out of you hehe if you tried to steal it.

On another note, I actually took a break from writting, because I should perhaps write to midway about it before continueing, it'd be nice to have my first published book to be about something I love, like MK.

The problem about fans writing books or what not is that they technically won't be established canon unless they are sanctioned by Midway and Ed Boon. Also, to get these works published would require a lot of legal dealings and such, which makes it that much more difficult. Furthermore, I'm sure a number of MK fans have already attempted similar things, asking if they could make MK books or comics and have them sanctioned by Ed Boon as canon, probably with no success (as I haven't seen any published).
I think what would be perfect (as I've stated before in another thread a while ago, screen through my posts to find it) would be an official MK Encyclopedia which is sanctioned by Ed Boon and Midway and published similarly to the Transformers Encyclopedia, giving thorough descriptions of the characters' histories, moves, what they have been doing throughout all the games, including the ones they were absent from, etc. I personally would prefer this, but should official MK comics or novels be released I would be just as greatful.

Let's just work together as a kommunity on a Mortal Kombat wikipedia site, which would be the most canon and definitive source of information on the series, like memory alpha is for Star Trek. Once we've finished that then hopefully more information on the clans/races/history etc of the Mortal Kombat mythology will be reveal in the next game.
Even if someone made books about the MK series, fan ones of course, but were endorsed by Midway and the MKTeam, that would be nice. I personally liked the Malibu comics, they were their own take on the MK storyline and I thought did a pretty good job with the characters.

MK wikipedia site...baby you are looking at the best resource for MK info on clans races...ect... the only thing is, we are missing all the content from MKDA+. It looks like I may have to re-create all those pages, if I want to add to them...as a problem has made those pages, uneditable.
