I have files that are .avi that are personal videos, so before people start asking, I'm NOT asking for help to burn movies illegally. I have DVD-R's and DVD+R's, but I don't know how to burn .avi to them. I'd really appreciate help, guys (and girls).

If you want them to run on DVD players (at least most of them, some newer DVD players can play .avi files but they're expensive) you need to convert the .avi files to .mpeg then use a program like Tsunami Mpeg to convert the video/audio files into proper DVD format. It's a lot of work, but that's how I did it.
There are probably other programs you can use to convert straight from .avi to DVD format, but I don't know of any as of now. I just know that, when the files are converted to DVD format, it won't be a single file, it'll be seperated into two folders, AUDIO and VIDEO, and so it'll be completly different from .avi when it's ready for the DVD player. _________________

Okay guys, let me clarify something. I don't know squat about this kind of stuff.
So that said, if you're going try to help me, please stop being so vague. I'll try my best to understand your directions, but you're going to have give directions first. _________________ Very Angry Girls Instigate Negative Attitudes.

Either you chose poor words, or you have no idea what you're talking about.
If you mean burn it to a data DVD and not a movie DVD, then that won't do Jay any good anyway.
Jay, what Mr. wannabeIT was suggesting is using a program called TMPGEnc, which will convert your AVI files to MPEG-2 format. You can download it here:
http://download1.pegasys-inc.com/download_files/TMPGEnc-2.524.63.181-Free.zip
It is a free program, so you don't have to worry about licensing issues.
As far as the reasoning to converting from one format to another, video DVD's are using the MPEG-2 format. If you use MPEG-2, then you should be able to play the DVD in any DVD player with no problem. However, you are going to need DVD burning software (such as Nero) that will allow you to create a movie DVD and combine the sound file (a wave file) with the video file.

Okay let me see if I can help you out here....
Well the conversion thing is easy just find WinFF it really easy to use. To burn however I'd suggest using Alchol 52% (I think thats the one I might be wrong). Both of these have instructions with them and are simple. _________________ Yippie Ki Yay
