I'd be ecstatic if Geddon was considered non-canon all together. We wouldn't have to worry about plots in the story and ridiculous mass resurrection and obliteration. Maybe they should stick with past stories since the future of Mortal Kombat is in turmoil.

Kinda off topic for a bit but welcome back Kombat Krave wasn't the same without you when you were gone from your trip to new jersey hopefully you had a good trip.

Back to topic yeah from the video i saw that before but it be lucky if there's even 3 to 4 characters that make it onto the next gen. But like it has been said midway better not let us down with the next gen mortal kombat cause they need to rebound from a not so good last current gen title.

There is going to be a big event that's gonna define the kinda of a destiny for all the Mortal Kombat characters. And when the smoke clears, whoever's still remaining, if anyone's remaining, is gonna be continuing on to the next generation of MK games.

"If" is a powerful word.

Sounds like characters being massively killed off to me.

That's exactly right. It sounds like it, but it's not outright definite.

Anyways, I think you're all reading way too much into Boon's words. He's leaving it open-ended. It's obvious that he said what he said to get hype.

Here's another quote:

Quote:
GameInformer: With everything I have heard to talk about Armageddon and read about it, it’s kind of alluding to the death of all of the characters at the end of the game. It seems like you have said that you want this to be the final chapter for this set of characters. Is this going to be it for a lot of these characters?

Boon: From a story standpoint, I am going to push the guys on the team to really close this chapter. At some point, you just really need to start over. With the whole next generation of consoles, it’s a perfect time to start all over - to start over with a story or the fighting engine and the graphics. I would like to close that story. Now whether that translates into everybody dies, which I think some people automatically think when they hear Armageddon, I think there’s an assumption that everybody dies. While the story is going to end, I don’t know that we will kill every single character off. A Mortal Kombat game without Scorpion and Sub-Zero is like a Street Fighter game without Ken and Ryu. But certainly, we would like to close as many chapters as we can and characters as possible and that may involve killing them. But we would like it to somehow tie in with the next game.

It's a goal and plan, but it isn't a fact. They would like to, but they may not.

Regardless of the specifics, there are way more important things. Did anyone realize that Armageddon failed to bring what was promised? Was there any closure? No. Is there any sort of great ending? No.
How can I expect the team to continue the concept of allegedly killing off characters, when they can't even do what they initially advertised? I will not take any assumptions of characters being killed off seriously until there are official statements made. Especially assumptions on "news" that hasn't been commented on for over a year.

I think the catalyst of the downfall of Mortal Kombat is the viral hype that fans create out of ambiguous statements. Rumors are fabricated; secrets are debated. But when the game actually comes out, there's just an utter sigh of disappointment. Fans usually don't complain because, well... we're fans. We're not going to abandon Mortal Kombat right away. But like I said - people expect too much.

So let's say that Mortal Kombat does kill off most of the characters in Armageddon. Fine, I can totally go along with that. But what would that lead to? Aside from the idea that it would actually be a good thing, what if the new characters suck? Fan demand for the dead would grow and it would lead to ridiculous resurrections, which would cheapen the already weak story.

And now let's take my route. It's commonly accepted by most fans and n00bs (through word of mouth) that most characters would die. So, MK8 finally rolls by and it is discovered that the concept never pulled through. If you were expecting huge changes, and there really weren't any, wouldn't it be a let down?

I'd rather expect to see everyone dead, and be let down by seeing them alive, then expect to see them alive, and be let down because their dead.

I'll second that, Vain, and I'll steal part of the article Jay posted by quoting, "A Mortal Kombat without Scorpion and Sub-Zero would be like a Street Fighter without Ken and Ryu." I'd rather be under the assumption that most characters will die and live, than expect all characters to survive then die. It would be completely lame to find out all characters were wiped out after the coming of Armageddon, but what to expect? Will the Apocalypse come and destroy the characters? Will this be their undoing? No one will know until the storyline is revealed.

But my point is that y'all already have an idea what MK8 might look like.
When really, we know nothing about it.
It's already to the point where you're thinking about what "you rather want".
There's not even any options on the plate yet.
