What was wrong with them? The only two things that he had that could be taken as 'powers' was his jumping ability and the fact he was a chosen warrior.
His gun was great, it allowed for a free hit, which is what he needed due to the high degree of characters with those. Besides, Jax took his gun in MKDA-Chained, so it's not like the concept went away.
And his four grenade moves were awesome. They ark like Johnny Cage's shadow ball, had two variations of height, as well as had a single bomb version and double bomb version.
Stryker in MKT = Top Tier.
