Please Save The Children.™
The newly elected Labor government (aka. the "turd sandwich team" - for those who are living overseas) will be pretty much clamping our balls in the vice grip as far as internet usage goes.
Exhibit A:
http://www.alp.org.au/media/1107/mscoit190.php
| Quote: | | Providing a mandatory ‘clean feed’ internet service for all homes, schools and public computers that are used by Australian children, so that ISPs will filter out content identified as prohibited by the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA). The ACMA ‘blacklist’ will also be made more comprehensive to ensure that children are protected from harmful and inappropriate online material; |
This basically means that internet content will be filtered at ISP level. Any overseas content that is deemed "inappropriate" by the government will be culled before it reaches your web browser.
Exhibit B:
http://www.acma.gov.au/WEB/STANDARD/pc=PC_310907
When the new year comes, the Australian classification system will be also applied to online content. The gist of the new laws is that any sites that carry anequivalent rating of R18+ or M15 will need an age verification procedure. The system will "work" by asking visitors to submit confidential info, such a CC numbers as proof of age. That's one way to kill traffic to a web site. I'm sure people would enthusiastically submit mandatory private information just to view M15 content.
And of course, X18+ and RC (Refused Classification) stuff will be banned outright, so no quality Aussie porn. Sorry. With the exception of the ACT, no other states allow X18+ material to be available for public consumption. We don't even have an R18+ rating for video games! So any game site that would normally have an R18+ rating will *probably* automatically get an RC.
These rules also apply for sites that provide nothing but links. You want build a decent torrent indexing site? Forget it.
Now here is the last ball crushing turn on the vice grip: If you host a site overseas that is either X18+ or RC in Australia, or does not have the mandatory age verification procedure, they can blacklist it and have it filtered at ISP level (see Exhibit A).
I wonder how this will affect sites such as TMK. I understand it is hosted in the US, but if it wants to provide M15 content to an Australian audience, would the admins need to comply with such laws, bend over, and take one for the team?
Please Save The Children.™
Jenny will no longer be able access the 2girls1cup web site. The poor thing.
Timmy is perturbed by the prospect of being blocked from stileproject.
No more 4chan Hentai for little Jarred either.
Danny will be barred from continuing his road of "self discovery" via the internet.
Thomas will never know the beauty of Martha's Girls. His mum is a real ball breaker already, but the new laws makes his prospects practically nil.
Tuan, an avid Tor user, just rips though the mult-million dollar ISP filters like the l337 h4x0r he is. He laughs. Asian kids rule.
Samuel will no longer be able to access the piratebay while in church.

Actully, the domain name is from the US, and the hosting is from the UK...lol While that list is bullshit they will never get away with it...people will crack the shits. Everytime Midway sends me an MK video they put on the e-mails that the video MUST be behind an age gate, thats why I had to make a page for restricted videos... other than that, they can't classify pictures so I think this site would be safe, the only thing they could come after is the video side of things. If they brought in Credit Card authentication I would figure out another way to get videos to members
