This is the last time I will express my opinion on this matter. I hope not, but if I upset any of you, I'm sorry;but if I get banned after this post so be it. It needs to be said!
History:
I went to Mortal Kombat Online to get game info and didn't notice it was a forum. Later (This month) I joined the forum, and from that I came to Total Mortal Kombat and joined this forum. I have to say that I like this forum better, mainly from the rewards for posting, bank, and shop.
The rules are good--no swearing, racism, sexism, etc.. But the "dead" topic rule needs to change, or if not changed; lock it or delete it so nobody new (even though they just want to contribute) doesn't get into trouble, possibly banned, or any other type of punishment. I've pm-ed a few people on this matter with a few different answers. Not all of us joined in 2003, and even MKA is a year old, so that leaves us noobies left with only the General MK discussion forum and to create new topics. Pretty much prebanning us from all other topics. Though the world isn't fair, this forum should be fun for all, not just the older members. In closing, I thank you for your time reading this, and possibly your actions on this matter.

Just to mention, all newbs can post a topic in any section, we just ask them not to bring anything back from 'forever' ago.
We've addressed this problem before and the best solution we could find was stretching the revive-limit to a year. Some of us were for locking all dead posts. I don't like the idea at all.
Personally, I don't see the harm in reviving dead topics. How to handle it shouldn't be a debate, and who is doing it shouldn't be punished. Meh... _________________ "...don't think it's yours just 'cause you marked it with your urine."

For the most part I agree with you. I think you "l{ombat_l{rave" said it would look like a prison with all the locks. I like the idea of expanding the limit. Most of the topics are good topics, but they are old and need fresh inputs. I mean if its 2 years old delete it, but if it's brought up again by someone new, they shouldn't get into trouble. The rules are their for everybodies satisfaction, so as not to offend any other user, or the spam rule just taking up space on the server. If someone did that intentionally then they should get punished (the offensive mainly.)
Scorpion 53 I've caught myself before posting in a dead topic. All the same, should we as noobs not post in dead topics just create a new topic and change the name but the same content to contribute what was in the dead topic?
To all: I'm not trying to start a fight by any means, just trying share what I know to otherwise dead topics that nobody has contributed.
And the first thing I did was read the rules, mainly cause I couldn't figure out how to post on here yet.
Yeah like I said I like this forum better than any other current or past forum that I belonged to. Some of them are so far back in time I can't even remember my login stuff. I am usually alot older than most forum users these days, but I love Mortal Kombat.

The point, finalfreak, is that when you sign up for TMK, you should have already read the rules and know what is and is not allowed on the TMK forums. I truly understand where you're coming from because I have had my share of run ins with the Sages before becoming one myself, but the important thing, in order to avoid being reprimanded by that rule is by checking the dates of the last post made. In all forums, the threads have the exact date and time of when someone last posted. _________________ Highest Kreate-A-Fatality: 11 (Ultimate Fatality)

I think I've broken the dead topic rule atleast once when I first joined. And also, prior to that, made the mistake in not reading the rules section first.
I was almost turned off by all the rules until I made the effort to think it through and finally come to realization why they were all there and how those do benefit for a better board.
Especially after visiting other messageboards regarding to Mortal Kombat and noticing their over redundant message posts like "who do you think is better?" and "whats your favorite character?" over and over, usually causing childish fights on the net.
But, finalfreak, I do understand where you are coming from in terms of being a member who wants to contribute to a party that passed.
However, don't worry about this matter much. In a few days or weeks, you will fit right in your element.
One of the other reasons that makes TMK site so memorable besides all the goodies, are its rules. They show purpose and basically helps push out bs nonsense that you will find in other communities.
my two cents. _________________ MORTAL KOMBAT!!!

To be completely honest I never read the rules when I first joined. I read them after about three or four months. I too revived dead topics Terminator vs Robocop being one of them. I see no harm in reviving a dead topic as long as something new has been added to the conversations. E.g. in Terminator vs Robocop which had developed into a full blown debate over which would be superior I added some facts to the conversation rather than saying "I think Terminator would win cause they are cooler". _________________ Yippie Ki Yay

THe problem with dead topics is this, to revive a dead topic, the member has to dig it up on TMK...that is accomplished 3 ways...they just click a random page number to get an old post, ot they use the search tool to get an old post...or through google. This makes me think that most of the time these people are doing it purposly for a laugh. I'm not talking about people like DarkSpecter as the posts he revived back then were still debatable whats "dead". I announced that a "dead" topic is 6 months. Someone suggested to make topics auto-lock after this time, but I like to forum to be open and not look restricted. So I just ask that members check the date on the last post...it really isn't that hard and most members have been doing a good job reminding new members that they have revived an old topic. As long as they learn from the mistake there is no problem, if they keep doing it they get banned. I must admit we have a big rules list but as DarkSpecter said they rules work. I had to add rules like "no vs topics" and it sounds over-the-top but it had to be done as we were just being flooded with "who is better scorpion or sub-zero?" "Rain vs Noob Saibot who would win!!111" I'm glad you guys like this forum compared to other MK sites. I have been trying to get more people to post but there are so many trollers who just seem to want to read and not join in...shame.

...I'd assume a new member wouldn't purposefully do it because it's funny...and most likely they review the first page of posts before continuing to the next page...
...the reason I've noticed newbs revive dead topics is because they've skimmed through all the posts to find a topic that looks flashy or interesting. Of course there's no cure for that anyways. _________________ "...don't think it's yours just 'cause you marked it with your urine."

Ok I understand now the importance you guys place on this subject. So if you can delete this thread please do so. I only look at the first page of a forum, not past that. _________________
