Kenshi's hara-kiri is the Japanese ritual suicide called "seppuku", or belly-cutting.
it was originally part of the Samurai's honor code that they would rather die honorably by their own hand than dishonorably by someone else's.

they probably didn't zoom in on the cut because it would take a great level of detail to show the innards of the human body.

I find Ashrah's hara-kiri disappointing.
She spins around, a few body parts fly off and then there's NOTHING.
Too clean.
I like to see a mess left over.

Though your point is strong(and accurate  ),
the purpose of Kensi's hara-kiri is to slit his leg and bleed to death,
wikipedi says that it is a genuine hara-kiri.
