In MK4, Raiden passed on the title of "Protector of Earthrealm" to Fujin. That would mean this is no longer Raiden's job.
This leads me to a question.
Why is Raiden still doing the job that he gave to Fujin? Was Fujin doing poorly, or Raiden just couldn't stay away?
My apologies if this seems to be a stupid question.

After Raiden's suicide, he was reborn and the evil nature he had since MK 1 became redefined. His tolerance for the human race had already worn thin. In Armageddon, he wasn't doing Fujin's job because he made a deal with Earthrealm's sworn enemy, Shao Kahn. He was preventing the salvation of the realms when he attempted to destroy Taven on Outworld. If he was trying to save the realms, he wouldn't have allied himself with Kahn. He was an Elder God, until MK:DA. Honestly, Raiden was undoing the realms.

I find this whole thing very interesting. I'm still stuck in Konquest, so I've yet to find Raiden.

Well, Shan, when you get to Outworld, you shall figure the truth that I have told you. Warning, Shan: if you do not wish to read spoilers, do not read this post all the way. To further illustrate my point, think about how Kahn's nature is. Kahn makes a deal with Raiden, Earthrealm's former protector, to prevent Taven from making it to Edenia, and in return, when Kahn wins, the prize, or so he claims, he would recognize Earthrealm's independence. C'mon, man, we all know that Kahn would conquer Earthrealm just as soon as he won the prize. (SPOILER from Kahn's MK:Ar ending) He would have killed Blaze, then conquered Earthrealm, and the rest of the realms, then gone insane because there was nothing left to conquer.
