Thanks for complimenting my avatar and sig. I animated them myself.
Now back to the topic.
Liu might still have a chance. In his Deception and Armageddon ending, he reunited body and soul and became one again. If that is to truly happen to Liu, and if Liu's rotting corpse managed to survive Armageddon, then maybe... just maybe, He can return in MK8.

Ya, even though that Liu's corpse and soul reunited in his ending(s)...it doesn't mean it's true. However, there are not much fans that want him back at all. The MK team messed him up in the first place, so I say too bad. Leave Liu dead for MK eternity!
Kung Lao, Nightwolf, Bo Rai Cho, Kai or a new character can take Liu's place as "champion" or protector of Earthrealm (since Raiden is corrupted).

Agreed, on the same page here. About a new hero and a new team of warriors, I thought of a team including Kung Lao replacing Liu, Fujin as the protector of Earth and add Scorpy, Subby and a few new faces in there. I thought of Scorpion since it's time to see him doing something different than the whole Quan Chi thing, making Scorpion a good guy would be simply awesome for me. Someone said something about making him human again, but that would ruin his concept, and keeping him dead as a specter would make a nice change from typical heroes.

Wow, I guess ya'll don't like Liu Kang. What confuses me is why Midway killed him off in the first place! A fan favorite character plus champion of mortal kombat, and the idiot alliance killed him! Also, I know Liu's deception and armageddon endings aren't true, but if his body and soul were to become one again, then he would be ok. I'm just saying that. If everyone says Liu Kang should just stay dead, then alright, but yeah.

Nah, me I love Liu Kang. Check out the "a new hero?" thread and see. But yeah they made a dumb move killing him off. They should handle their characters better. SubZero(to mention a few) has had good, new and interesting storylines throughout the games, they oughta put the same amount of effort to the other in the roster as well.

Ya know what? I agree. And this time, even if MK's new hero has a long run, DON'T KILL THE POOR BASTARD! Just let him/her off easy and say it's time for a new hero.

Exactly! State his prescense in some way. Make him a mentor/advisor or at least something. If you could have one villain to return, who would you guys pics? I'd go with Shang Tsung or Quan Chi.

You see, During the run of MK before MKDA, Liu Kang developed a HUGE fan base. Yes, he has his haters, but hey, every single MK character does. By killing off Liu Kang, I can't say just how many pissed off Liu Kang fans there were, but I do know this... There were A LOT of them. Now yes, we all know Mortal Kombat for the Fatalites and stuff, but this was not kool. This was a fatality that kicked Liu Kang from the game, and that particular fatality might just expel Liu Kang from MK for good!

Liu Kang was cool in MK 1-3, beyond that he was horrible. When he came back as a zombie and his alt is his human form, I was like wtf? He's meant to be played as the zombie character, not human! Instead they could of had torn clothing on him in the zombie form for his alt...geez!
Liu Kang has to seriously go, sorry L.K fans. Anthem plays.........

There's no doubt that I'd rather see Shujinko return than Zombie LK. Liu himself is disoriented and overly used. The only thing is to let him get eaten up by maggots for a nice full-filled death.
Shujinko on the other hand, he can become more than Liu can these days. Shujinko can be transformed into some kind of psycopathic wizard, or just a normal wizard of some sort.
If Shujinko does happen to return, he's gotta get his "own" arsenal of special moves!

I don't think so, pal. Shujinko does not compelle good with Liu's moves because, those moves are totally lame and boring. Well, except for the dragon fireballs. Those would not suit Shujinko anyways.

He didn't have Liu's fireball. He had his bicycle kick.
...
And Liu's bicycle kick is not lame!

I think Liu was and still is the better character. When you saw Liu, you instantly knew he's a badass, the defender of the realm! I liked Shujinko's quest, but the character didn't really have a charisma like Liu or Kung Lao. Shujinko was pretty much a cliche and I'd prefer if the quest in MKD would follow the events of someone else like Kung Lao or even Kai.
