Post subject: Killing off majority of old kharacters a good idea? |

Im pretty scared about MK8 it could really kill the series. I say that because since almost all the characters died in Armageddon. Thats means 85% of the roster will be new characters & I think it will be hard for the MK TEAM to create new original,lovable characters. What if they create the new characters and they just happen to have the old characters moves.
say we get a new character named "Oro Li" and he just happens to have:
High Fireball
Low Fireball
Bicycle Kick
Flying Kick
making him a Liu Kang clone w/o the history and personality of the orignal... making him lame
(Im not sure who survived Armageddon so if i name someone that didn't die forgive me)
Heres some we will severely miss:
Reptile, Cyrax, Sektor, Baraka, Sub-Zero, Scorpion, Kitana, Mileena, Jade, Liu Kang, Sheeva, Sindel etc. all those kharacters gone. Just imagine all your favorite characters gone (the ones in/before MK4).
Majority (not all) of the new kharacters (characters after MK4) that came out are not even half as good as the originals some of them are actually stealing some moves from old characters
(Mavado, Kobra, Darrius, Bo'Rai Cho, Shujikno).
I guess since most of the old characters are dead they will get to reuse some moves
It might be lame but I think they should create a story where all MK contestants get revived call it "Mortal Kombat: Revival" thats pretty much reinventing the whole thing because you got all the characters back plus making all new stories.
Don't get me wrong though I still have faith in MK they could make a new character coming from Reptiles species or come up with some brand new characters that are better than the likes of Sub-Zero and Scorpion but I guess only the future will tell. This could go eithier way

Dude. I hear you. I undestand perfectly what are you saying but stop having this scared tone. Trust me when I say that Scorp/Sub-zero/Raiden are definitely going to be in Mk8. On what do i base my statement: Well.... first of all Scorpion is Boon's favourite so he can't just give up on him. I am sure that the child within him :d wants to see how scorp's gonna look on the Unreal Engine 3 
Second, Scorp and Sub-zero are the most popular Mk characters. Come on, Boon's smart. Sure he said they're gonna start fresh but he won't give up on them 2. Raiden has a major storyline twist and I am sure we're gonna see him too. And I also think it's most likely to see Kung Lao, Quan Chi or S.Tsung, Mileena/Tanya or Kitana, Ermac. I, for one, think they're gonna be 8 to 10 revamped old fighters and 10 or 12 new ones.
Please don't take the MKA endings to serious because most of them are rushed and despite the fact that I absolutely LOVE MKA, in the ending section, it lacks like hell.
But as you said it, MKgorefreak, time will tell what's gonna happen, but I have faith in the Midway team.

That'd be great. But most fighters are simply done. Some fighters don't maintain the interest anymore or never had. And some characters have sadly reached their endings and can't be furtherly developed. I have faith in Midway as well in this one.

If only Scorp and Subby return, that is fine with me, I would like 1 or 2 more coming back, but oh well.
And if the MK doesnt kill them in the story, just writes them out, they
can always come back if the game does not take well, yes?
IMHO tho, I think the idea of starting fresh, with the exception of 2-4
characters is the best idea from the MK team in a while.
(not to diss the past games, I love em)

I'm on the same page here. If Scorpion and Subzero return, it's already a decent cast of fighters for me. But I'm guessing 5-7 oldies will return.

Reptile survives MKA unless I'm mistaken, and he discovers a new female Zaterran, maybe she could be a new character alongside Reptile, or there could be some kind of offspring...

MK 8 is going to be a great game. Overall, the game needed a fresh start. Characters like Mavado and a few others I can't think of right now weren't some of my favorites, nor did I like playing with them. With a new storyline, new fighting system, and new characters, this game should be one to become a classic. Now, we were all disappointed when the MK Team suddenly decided to stop doing bios because they left a lot of questions we had unanswered. I think they owe it to us to answer some of those questions when the game comes out. Those questions may be answered in the intro to the new game; however, do not depend upon it. The intro to Mortal Kombat: Armageddon left us with a lot of unanswered questions, which not only angered us, but disappointed us. They have something planned, and I want to find out what it is.

I also enjoyed playing as rain in mka, I wouldnt mind
seeing him back at all.

Seeing Reptile in human form and Rain again would be awesome. But my favorite of course out of the male ninja's is Ermac so im praying to god he comes back for mk8. Same with Kitana of course she's my favorite girl ninja. Without those two i'll still buy the game but it just won't be the same.

It looks like some will disappointed no matter which characters are in there. Rain is a pretty good character, he would be a nice addition to MK8.
