I really wanna buy a next-gen console but I do not know which one to pick.
I know already that I am not buying a Wii but between PS3 or 360 I cannot make my mind.
Would you be so kind to give me your opinion and suggestion?
Wanna buy the console this Christmas and I am in Europe, do you think that prices will go down?

Not anytime soon, no. But allow me to bring these things to mind:
Ups of the 360:
1. More games
2. Cheaper
3. Faster released games
4. Many games that get put on the PS3 either are going to 360, or have already been 360 titles.
Downs of the 360:
1. The controller is annoying
2. The Red Ring of Death
3. At this time, no Blu Ray support
4. Slowly losing third party support to Sony
Ups of the PS3:
1. Blu Ray support
2. Can play PS1 games, and with the 60 and 80gig versions, can play PS2 games as well
3. NO REGIONAL CODING!!!! This means you can get any blu ray dvd, and buy any game for PS3 from ANY country, and it WILL PLAY on your PS3
4. Online store sells classic PS1 games and some PS2 games with the store increasing its range each day
5. Games that come out on PS3 that were originally on 360 have more bug fixes and more content put in from the start (Oblivion for example)
6. The contoller is a lot more comfertable
7. Can install Linux on it for a more computer like feel and operation
Downs of PS3:
1. Can overheat easily with the 40 and 20gig versions.
2. Only the 60 and 80 gigs can play PS2 games
3. Fewer games out for PS3
4. Takes longer for games to be released for PS3
Ultimately, I say get a PS3. I got myself a 40gig PS3, due to I still kept my PS2, and you can easily mod the PS3 and tack on a 1 Terabyte external hardrive if you really need the extra memory space. _________________

is it possible then to connect a PS3 to a TFT monitor? If so, will the image quality be close to a HD Ready TV? If a special cable is needed, is it easy to find on the market?
Sorry for asking all this question I just wanna make sure that I wont spend my money for something that i wont even use that much (Like my PSP)

I'd go with a 360. I mean I have one and a Wii but that is beside the point. The ups with a 360 is that you have X-box live market which allows you
A) To download many arcade games, original X-Box games such as Halo etc.
B) Controllers aren't that annoying (its a matter of opinion)
C) Since you are waiting till Christmas they will probably have fitted blu-ray by then ( I didn't bother since I won't be getting a HD TV anytime soon)
D) More must have games at the moment (once again matter of opionion)
Bad points however
A) Although there is backwards compatibility it is done as emulation so not every X-Box original plays unless its on the compatbility list
B) Those that do play have constant bugs
C) X-Box are notourious for having many errors built in them (RROD, Disc sratching)
If you went for Sony I'd say
A) Best graphics of all the consoles
B) Metal Gear Solid 4
C) As Vain said multi-reigion blu-ray
Bad points
A) Too expensive still
B) Not much different from previous console other than graphics
C) Must have games are at a low
D) Not a problem with the console itself but Sony are too dismissive of problems and competition. Bad business ethics in a violent business world that could cost them some good third party games. _________________ Yippie Ki Yay

Well I can't tell for certain since I have the premium but the Elite is worth the money of you have it since it came out well after the first two 360s so most bugs were ironed out by then. There are still things such as RROD but that only happens to people who download loads of updates for games (such as in Guitar Hero III people who download all the songs normally get it, this is down to the download though) _________________ Yippie Ki Yay

I believe you can, you just need to buy an HDMI cable (offical sony one goes for around $60) And I couldnt tell you, as I have a basic TV myself, no HD products to compare it with.
As for the ELITE, it has HD support, but not Blu-Ray. (Blu-Ray is the highest quality right now, which Sony has done a good job of monopolizing the market). I believe there is works for there to be an attatchment for the 360 ELITE, but by then you'd be paying just as much as you would for a 40gig PS3.
And the PS3 as I mentioned a bit as well has a market just like XBox, though it's not as expansive (yet), it's getting there.
And Jab, there is a HUGE difference from PS2 to a PS3. I even noticed this when I first got my PS3 a few months back.
Though I will agree Sony doesn't have that great business ethics, I will say they don't dismiss problems concerning their products to the degree of Microsoft. _________________

Sorry for bothering you guys, I have another question. Can u copy stuff (Movies, music, photos) from a USB flash disk or External hard drive to a PS3? And also all my movies are on the AVI format, can the PS3 play this format?? If not, what movie format does it play?

Yes, you can download right off a flash drive, even off a computer or laptop if they have blue tooth in them (Like my moms laptop). I also use my PSP to exchange files to my PS3.
As for the question of AVi, the PS3 should be able to run it. it plays most common codecs, AVI, MP3, MP4, WMA, and a few others. And even then, like I mentioned before, you can install Linux on the PS3 and then just add in codec support for what the PS3 doesn't already. _________________

Thanks VainZiler with all you told me the only reason I would go buy a Xbox 360 is because is cheaper but I won't do that.
Now I just need to make some money over the summer and get myself a brand new PSP. I mean Playstation 3 lol

Great topic. I'm gaining interest in buying one of these consoles. I'm leaning to the PS3 more. Thanks for the info.
Man, if someone were to ask this on another forum, example IMDB's videogame forum, all you would see is biased knuckle heads.

Believe me we are as bias as any other people. As you can tell me and Vain are backing our consoles and trying to get someone to either side.
What I meant the PS2 and 3 being no different is that the game are your basic action-adventure, driving, etc. Now I'm not going to say that Microsoft are innocent of doing this but they do have a few more original games backing them.
I also weren't referring to Sony being dismissive to Microsoft but Nintendo. Despite Nintendo selling their console just under double the amounts around the world (albeit at a cheaper price) they don't seem to take Nintendo serious enough by saying it is just a phase. They also claim that no PS3 has been on the shelf longer than five minutes, now since I work in a major shop I can honestly say I have only ever seen us sell one PS3 in a three week period. _________________ Yippie Ki Yay

I wouldn't say we're totally biased, as we're not sitting here shoving our console beliefs down each others throats, as well as we do give props to the good points we see in the other consoles.
And I partically agree with you when it comes to PS3, as the majority of titles out there now are either Action/Adventure, or mindless shooters. But PS2 had a vast amount of differing genres and titles for it, just some of them were more hard to come by then others due to popularity.
Yea, I get what you're saying with that last point Jab, completely agree with you; but I think that mostly has to due with Sony still after all these years feeling bitter about Nintendo breaking the deal and making the N64. _________________

id go a 360, i have a 360 and never had a problem, the RROD is only bad with the first line of 360's the ones out now are pretty safe, disc scratching is rare and never happened to me,the controllers are great i think, theres nothing on the ps3 that is worth shelling out that much for anyway,im happy with my ps2 still, the only game id consider getting a ps3 for is FFXIII thats if its good or not
anyways its up to you man,ps3's usually have to have you install your game on the HDD ive heard a few framerate issues with ps3,but framerate doesnt bother me really, theres just not much to choose from on ps3 at the moment _________________ True Victory is reserved for those Willing to pay its Price
