What was the reason he was sent to the Netherealms in the first place? Before he was defeated by Sub-Zero the first time was he still able to control fire? Couldn't really find anything that stated it.
Also it's said that he's "hell-spawned", but if he was wouldn't that automatically make him evil? On the other hand he seems to be more on the good side then the other.

He wasn't really 'sent' to the netherrealm; his spirit after death traveled there so it could be reborn from hatred. He gained his fire and immortal powers (if memory serves right) after making a pack with some netherrealm sorcerers for those powers, however in exchange he would never be allowed to see his wife nor son in reincarnation.
Assuming hell and evil go hand in hand is strictly a religious thing; and even then it's mostly a catholic and christan deal. Hell isn't just evil. As for Scorpion, he always has been, and always will be, neutral.
