Here's an idea.

There could be some stages/arenas where you could move in full 3D.

And, there could be a few other stages/arenas with more narrow fighting surfaces where you would have to fight in almost 2.5D.

Ah for example if the Kharacters were fighting say in the pit from mk1. Then it is realistic in the sense that they have to fight in a straight line.
Nice idea Razz

Dunno man MK influenced by a street fighter game?! Puke

Well MK was originally made to kombat the sales of Streetfighter II which was owning all the arcades at the time. So I guess, in a way, MK has always been influenced by SF.

Nah not influenced. MK was more of a challenger to the thrown of beat 'em ups. They won Flawless Victory! Twisted Evil BlaBla

Lol, yeah definitely a challenger. But it was using a lot of the tricks that SF invented. SF pretty much started the whole 2D fighting trend, so any game that followed in that genre must have been influenced (in some way or form) by the example that SF set.

I agree with you there I have respect for Street Fighter I mean I think the animes are awesome and Akuma/Gouki is badass. But MK was and is on a whole different level man. It gave Street Fighter a good stern kick in the face! Twisted Evil BlaBla

I totally agree. I'm a MK head from the old arcade days, and I truly believe that it's the best fighting game franchise in history. Streetfighter and Mortal Kombat are miles away from each other, but they both come from the same basis.

If the arcade age was still upon us, I reckon a 2D MK work work wonders. People would have problems coughing up 40/50 dollars for a home version, but I could see people really enjoying it in arcades at a pay per play rate.
