Is Liu Kang going to kick ass again?
Or have we moved on from the Shaolin Monk, aka. the chosen one?

No, I don't think MK TEAM is going to drop Liu Kang just yet. I think they're going to try to resurrect him (yet again, if you count his Deception/Armageddon endings, whose canonicity is both debunked and yet to be revealed, respectively...)
As per the whole 'Chosen One' nonsense... You've been taking the movies as gospel truth, haven't you?
Word of advice: Take the movies as 'somewhat clever' (Look up: Politically Correct; Subheading: Trite-and-bland ((would say 'Craptacular', but I've a weakness for most Video-Game Movies...)) ) blendings of MKs I & II for the first movie, and UMK3 + 4 for Annihiliation.
No... better yet, think of them as 'Kiddy Ride' versions of the games, nothing more...
I guess what I'm trying to say is...
Can someone else explain it, preferably someone without a conscience?

lol, just because he asked that questions doesn't mean that he's only seen the movies.
I'd say it's a legitimate question, considering all that's happened to Liu Kang.
I mean, come on. as of the last game, he was a zombie, for Christ's sake.
given that information, I would say it's plausible that he could be stepping down as the chosen one. I can only hope that the new hero (if there is one) will be the paragon of hope and heroism that Liu Kang has been for all these years. =p

I'd like to keep my brains rather fresh for thinking and learning.....
a smarter figher is definitely a better fighter...

It would be cool if they made really logical kharacter for MK9. Someone who strategizes their attacks (and hopefully fatalities), while at the same time does them in a badass way.

Hmm you men seem to dislike each other.
Well getting back to the topic.
Since the Team have stated that most kharacters will die I hope Liu Kang kan be given the respect he deserves and let him die. Hes saved us enough times its time to pass the torch. They need a new symbol of hope, one that will live on to be a worthy successor to the mighty always remembered and respected Mk Champion: Liu Kang.

Not only have they milked Kang for all he's worth (and then some) time and time again, but to bring him back now after his zombie appearances would simply cheaper the character beyond repair. It would also cheapen the story of MK:DA since it lay heavily on the fact the Shang Tsung and Quan Chi killed Kang... and left him very dead indeed.

To be honest, Liu Kang's death is one of the main reasons I liked MKDA so much, he wasn't in it!
I enjoyed the rise of Kenshi, who at first appeared to be Kang's successor in the franchise. I also liked how Kung Lao finally let his hair down (no pun intended) and faught like true warrior.
It seemed like as long as Liu Kang was around, no one else could succeed. I think it's best for Liu Kang to rest peacefully, and let Kenshi or Kung Lao take his place as Champion.

Think back to his story in MKDA, it's perfect!
I think it will work quite well.
You know, come to think of it, Mokap's MKDA story sets up for something good as well. This guy is always being used over and over again for movies and games because of his extreme knowledge of martial arts. Wouldn't makes sense for Raiden - or Shang Tsung - to collect him?
