Ok so I was thinking of a couple of things.
So in my opinion, Boon isn't as stupid as we think he is. Don't you see it with MK A and MK v.s DC? Ok let me explain. MK all started with a huge fanbase. From MK1 to MKSM it has always been the same fan base. But I'm pretty sure Boon is just trying to attract a totally new fanbase known as teenagers. Cause people like me and you, are probably over 17 (I'm 18 myself). And I'm pretty sure Boon sees that with his first fan base getting older, he needs a new younger one. So in MK A, he tried to attract this 'fanbase' by destroying all that was from the old games. (If you think about it its quite simple. Imagine your 14 and its your first time playing Mortal Kombat and you start with Deception. You are gonna be a hell of a lot lost if you don't know the full MK story) So in my opinion, thats how he wants to attract that fanbase, by destroying everything from the old, and bring in the new. For example,nearly all the other old characters are bound to be killed off. A very special symbol of this theory was the death of Lui Kang. He was pretty much the main character of MK, the center piece so to say. So when I learned he was killed, I knew Boon was up to something.
One thing I really recently started to like, was the intense storyline(in Deception and SM.) I mean don't get me wrong, but before, you could never really explore the storyline other than by watching 'endings and bios'. I've been a fan of MK since I was 10 and I was playing MK1 on my SNES. I really didnt care for it as I had lost interest big time. So Deception was actually my second game that I ever played from MK and I LOVED IT! and I say that they should make more prequels! The old storyline was more mysterious and KICK butt.
Anyhow I know this post is huge, but in my opinion that is what Boon is doing. I know it may sound far fetch, but it actually makes sense if you think about it. Why were the 2 last games so different from the other 6 games? Also I'm sure that if the MK franchise cant attract this new fanbase, it will ultimatly be dead, as it will have betrayed its old fanbase (us) and we will pretty much have no more interest in MK games. Lets face it, if they come up with a second 'MK v.s DC' type of game, some people are gonna go crazy, including me, and there will be no 'new fan base' to relly on.
