Well nothing konfirmed yet but @TRMK on twitter has posted that PSM3 magazine will be revealing 2 big titles in June. One kould be MK.
Ed has stated that it is the fastest MK yet, radically different from the last few MKs and posted an anagram that was broken down into: THERE IS NO RUN BUTTON. This was stated after MK II beat UMK3 in Ed's twitter poll.
Oh and he mentioned if we wanted Friendships, Animalities or Babalities to return.
So yeah really big chance it is 2D.
Like wladodragovic said it could be in the style of SF4/SSF4 3D graphics in 2D playing field. Iv got a feeling ill be playing this next MK9 a lot more than the last few dudes! ^-^

Yeah!! I just hope it's like that...
I think Boon had a little nostalgia for the oldies, and I'm glad MK is going back to being fast again!
These past titles were pretty much just Stand - Move Around - Try To Make A Combo - Kick Somebody Into Death Trap - Win...
....Well, not exactly, but you know what I mean.

Yeah I know what you mean.
It'll be kool for the hardcore old games fans. Since most of em suck on the new titles. It'll give the oldies a little uplift when they are kicking the new guys asses.

That would be good. But they'd be stage fatalities again! ^-^
Oh and Ed has stated that although he loves the SSF4 3D graphics in a 2D environment but MK would be going in a different direction.
So I hope its old-school 2D MK!

But when you think about it, what can the thing be??

So it just leaves 2D, and I'm highly suspicious about getting another 2D sprite MK game...
It wouldn't sell among the newer (de)generations.

Yeah im keeping my eyes peeled for next months psm3 mag.
I don't really kare if newer fans won't buy it. I will def be buying it. Maybe even multiple kopies! ^-^

If not like Street Fighter IV in terms of graphics, then maybe they can go the way of Super Street Fighter II Turbo, and go to HD hand-drawn graphics. that could be cool.

Nah, MK was never hand-drawn and I hope it never will be either.
Even if it looks good, it won't look like MK, it would look like a fan-made Mugen game...

True, true. I guess it would be cool if just went back to their old style of mocap and just photograph all the actors. If they added in more frames, then they could have really fluid movements.

Damn, I was never this eager to see a new MK!
I was too young to anticipate the first three MKs and the news in my part of the world were pretty slow in that time...
...And honestly, I didn't expect much from MKDA-MKvsDC... 
...But Now this really promises something.
