We all remember when socrpion said "Get the fuck over here!" in MK:SM... or at least we think we do. Personally it's a bit of an odd memory for me. I can't remember if I actually heard it, or if I just imagined it. Anyways, there was an adult sticker on the case of that game because of it's content. It was already covered in blood and violence, so what harm could there be in slipping a little swear word into the mix.
Nowadays, swearing in video games is as common as swearing in movies. Most games ain't aimed at kids anymore, they are aimed at teens, and mature audiences. So, will the new MK feature foul language? It claims to have the most indepth story to ever grace a fighting disc, so surely there will be a lot of diologue involved. If things get heated between two characters, I'd like to see the language also get heated. In reality, if a vengent Sonya Blade came face to face with Kano, surely the words she would speak wouldn't be that of a lady. Same concept applies for scorpion hunting Sub-Zero, or Liu Kang going toe to toe with Shang Tsung during the econd tournament, considering the hatred they would have built up during the first one. This game is already going to be sporting the mother of all adult stickers on the case, so swearing wouldn't be a huge stretch... and come on, who wouldn't love Johnny Cage to say "Those were $500 sunglasses, asshole!" at the beginning of a fight.

Some games go so overboard with the swearing that I find it irritating and eventually unplayable usually I'm counting how many F@%k are in a sentence. In some places swearing adds a depth of realism but I don't want over the top every other word stuff. Just better dialogue can often remove the need for swearing.

If it's used sparingly, then it could work. Besides, adding swears in gaming has been going on since game developers gave the players the option of using voice chat.
Besides, to quote Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw:
"By the way, it's alright, you can swear on the Internet, your Mom probably isn't going to read it. I know, because she's too busy being fucked, by me."

The odd swear word used at the right time would be kool. Example: Sub-Zero manages to escape from Scorpion's grasp after an epic fight and Scorpion says extremely angry : "That fffffuckin' Lin Kuei!!!!!!"
Think it would work?
Btw MK Dan is almost certain that the game will be banned in Germany. Poor dudes.

With Germany not getting the game, I'm gonna go ahead and assume that Australia isn't gonna get the game either. Australian gamers would have Michael Atkinson to blame for that.

Of course I mean well timed, and not over used swearing. Lets not turn MK into another GTA. I certainly wouldn't like the characters to sound like dodgey gangsters. But, having said that, if it is well timed, it could really work. It could really amplify the heat of the situation at hand, and deliver a better, stronger scene.
By the way... Who is the "Yahtzee" guy?

To clarify, Yahtzee is the creator of the online show "Zero Punctuation." In it, he talks about a game, with most of the "review" ripping on the bad points of the game. With each video being about 5-7 minutes, he talks at a faster pace than most reviews.
Without making a big wall of text here, just go to The Escapist Magazine.com, and find his videos in the Videos section. It's best to watch the oldest video first, and work your way up from there.
Getting back on topic, well timed swearing is better than constant swearing. If it's constant, then that would tone down the dark factor of the game.

I can understand Austarlia, but why Germany? do they have the same old: ''No M'' thing? and by the way, no matter whow much that guy bitches about It, NetherRealm will NOT censor anything, just like Rebbelion did with AvP... and I dont know, I dont think swearing really fits MK....... besides, we dont want a gangster MK, like that movie I saw once which basicly every 2 seconds somebody will say fuck in one form or another.
