So... I just bought an HDMI cable and hooked it up to my Big screen. I thought I'd test it out with the hi-res MK 9 trailer I had saved to my desktop. First off, HOLY CRAP! People we saying that they were surprised at how great the gameplay looked at E3 because the trailers on a computer didn't do it any justice. Watching this thing in true HD was mind blowing. But enough about that. The reason you can here.

Now, I booted it up in my Quicktime player and used the new big screen and detail to check out everything in super slow motion. Now, none of this is "new" news, but it's worth pointing out that, upon further inspection, we can confirm stuff we only assumed.

First off : With Millena's intro we all made the assumption this was either the street or the bridge stage fro MK3. If you look closely, you can see it's actually a combination of the two with elements of the bridge on the right back and, if you remember the game, the street being right above the Subway. If we look at the ground at Mileena's feet, we can actually see a hole leading to the subway. While you cannot, by any means, see into the level, it is clearly a reference (if not an addition in the game) of the ceiling uppercut. Also, in the back right next to Mileena, we can see the entrance TO the subway station... very clever MK Team!

Next! Kung Lao's intro highly speculated that this was the rooftop stage from MK3. Some people argued that the gargoyles were not present and, therefore, it couldn't possibly be the case. Well, naysayers can suck it because if the burning buildins in the background didn't give it away, we can actually see, off in the distance, a row of VERY similar gargoyles linging the rooftop. While we know these only from the side and these gargoyls are from the back, the color, design and pose is the EXACT same. Totally the Rooftop.

Now, EGM confirmed the Kombat Temple as an arena, bet we SHOULD have already seen this coming. Sub-Zero has a quick intro shot and the backlighting showing off a glamorous stain glass sun reflection shows the OTHER side we didn't see in the magazine.

Now, I'm sorry if you didn't get what you wanted out of this thread, but I feel like being able to make these confirmations this early is quite a feat rather than argue about what stage is what.

I also want to point out that being able to actually SEE Shang Tsung with the Hi-Def has confirm that he is awesome looking with a LOT of attention to detail especially in the face.

I would also like to point out that Shao Kahn clearly has and intro in, what I can now TOTALLY confirm because of the hi upgrade, gameplay graphic and not cut scene. While this could just be a boss intro, note that he is on the FIRST player side so that would be quite an interresting place for the BOSS to be in a one player game. Thiink about it.

I hope you enjoyed a little fan summised confirmation. There were other beautiful touches that I missed because on the low-res, but I've written enough and those are the only tings you'll care about.

Are you able to make out who that female character that is chained up in Kahn's arena is, near the end of the video?

This thread made me watch through the trailer again. I don't have super hi res screens, or the tech to watch it in uber slow-mo, so I kinda have to watch it again on youtube with an itchy trigger finger on the pause button, lol. Loving the Streets background, and all the little details therein. Also seeing those gargoyles pretty much made my day.

I'd like to know what other little touches you found too, dude.

Amphibious, the chick tied up on the left hand side is Kira. Not sure about the other one though. I don't reckon she's a substantial character. She could just an extra.

This other stuff I found wasn't really all that ground breaking. Mostly graphical and homage touches. But, if you want, I'll point out a little more for you:

- When Reptile first appears, you can see that there are NO women chained up in the background, yet the chains are still there slanted as if attached to someone. This heavily implies thatm yes, Kira, Li mei and Kitanan ARE erely placeholders.

The living Forest is incredible. The little touches are amazing. The tress burping, the crows picking at corpses and being scared away by the fighters. Even a little homage is present as the half devoured man with the rice patty hat from MK2 can be seen in the rotting mess with Reptile and Kung Lao are fighting. GOD I WANTED to find someone sneak around the background... but I DIDN'T

At the end of the video while Kung Lao is doing his fatality, you can see the audience throwing chunks of meat into the collusium. This is most likely to entice the "Tormenter" that we haven't yet seen, but MAY hint at Kahn Colluseum actually having a stage fatality.

Oh, and for those of you who want a GOOD picture of Shang Tsung... Allow me :

This is as hi res as I could get him in picture form.

Wow I've heard about the image but this is the first time I've seen it look at the detail on the throne nevermind Shang himself

Oh man I always felt bad for that rice hat in the background of the Living Forest. IIRC he's even in the Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks version of the level. Glad they put him in this version of the map as well. It'd be a nice touch if Human Smoke and Jade were added into the final version of MK8's living forest, peering out from behind the trees like in MK2.

BELIEVE ME! I kept an EXTREMELY close eye out for them.

...and thanks for the image compliment. That's what a High def trailer gets ya! I've seen some really shitty screen grabs of Shang.

So if Shang Tsung is playable, will he be in this old man form from the first game, or is younger form from the second?

It may be a stretch, but I would like the choice of updated versions of all three. Perhaps just old and young, but then make an option for his MK3 one as DLC at some point.

Imagine id in the living forest after some period of time, Smoke and Jade appear and engage in combat, then dissappear again, that would be AWESOME! and [/quote]Oh man I always felt bad for that rice hat in the background of the Living Forest. Even if it was just two of them (one young, and one old) it should suffice. I was thinking this myself while typing the earlier post.

this is MK9, not MK8

I consider it MK8 since of the main game series that's where it fits in, since MKvsDCU is not part of the main story canon. There's a thread dedicated to this discussion.
