It all demends on how Techincal you wanna be about it becouse
1.MK1
2.MK2
3.MK3
4.UMK3
5.MK4
6.MK-T
7.MK-M (Sub Zero)
8.MK-DA
9.MK-D
10.MK-A
11.MK-SM
12.MK vs DC
So you can call it MK 13 if ya want as all these were each released as a game and not expansions or patch. I dont understand why people are tryen to say its their way or the highway becouse its not even called MK9.

deathrider is right. I mean seriously.
1. MK1
2. MKII
3. MK3 (UMK3/MKT were just updates. They are still MK3)
4. MK4 (MK: Gold was simply an update)
5. MK: DA
6. MK: D
7. MK: A
8. MK: 2011
MKM: SZ was just a spin off, even though it was part of the canon storyline. It wasn't however a legitimate MK game as it wasn't 2 player.
It was a one player adventure game that used the MK engine.
MK: Special Forces was a spin off too, and it wasn't canon.
They tried to make another adventure game, and failed at it.
MK: SM was an adventure game, and while not ENTIRELY canon, it did at least TRY to follow the MKII storyline. Wasn't perfect, but it was still fun nonetheless. It even had a 2 player VS. mode, so a hint of good ol' Kombat without the adventure was there.
MK vs DC just ISN'T a MK game... It's just not. I don't care how fun it is or how good it looks, giving the game little to no blood, censoring some fatalities, having the audacity to even call some of them finishing moves FATALITIES was just an INSULT. It's not Mortal Kombat. It may have the characters, but it's not Mortal Kombat. Just a basic fighting game with MORTAL KOMBAT slapped on the cover. This game is simply a spin off, as are the rest of the games I haven't numbered.

MK vs DC is no way near a MK game, I would call it: ''DC universe'' anyways: UMK3 and trilogy ARE MK games, they where realsed seperatly and not as a patch, asa full game, MK: Mytjlogies follows the storyline, aka a MK game, Shoalin Monks Is canon. so after all: This Is MK 13.

Unless Ed Boon or the MKTeam start calling this game "MK9" then we really should refer to it as MK8. I wish TMK would change this section's name to that too.

It is true that UMK3 and MKT were released as seperate games, but, they are just updates to MK3. They follow the MK3 storyline, use the same engine, same sounds, same everything. Some new features were added, but just about everything remained the same. They weren't patches, but they weren't remakes either. They were in fact, simple updates, so in a nutshell, UMK3 and MKT both qualify simply as MK3. Same applies for MK4 and it's Dreamcast update MK: Gold.

I completely agree. Just because they slap "Mortal Kombat" over the cover doesn't mean it's a legitimate MK game part of the canon storyline. Only games of the canon storyline should be given an accurate number. Not a spin off. Therefore, MK vs. DC should not be looked at as MK8.
The TRUE successor to MK: A is the real MK8, and that is Mortal Kombat 2011.

Hmmm, now I get It, yep this Is: MK8 (But we really should just call It Mortal Kombat, quite easier right?) but apperantly TMK aint gonna change It. But wait, Mythlogies follows the story line, Ed said some where Shoalin Monks Is canaon, so teqnuicly this Is MK 10/11????

MKM: SZ was canon, but it was not a legitimate MK game as it was not a 2 player vs. fighting game, and Sub-Zero is the only playable character.
MK: SM was an adventure game as well, and while SOME parts were canon, alot of parts weren't. It DID have a 2 player co-op AND 2 player vs. Kombat, but since the storyline wasn't perfectly canon, I think of it more as a spin-off, and it was in the long run.

Well, looks like It's MK8 then. (But If a member of the MK team calls It MK9, a few things will change) but meh I will just call It MK or call It MK9 (I kind agot used too saying MK9, but still It Is MK8 I guess)

Yes, this is true, but in complete canon story, spin offs do not apply as a numbered MK. At least they shouldn't.

NRS has the right idea just calling this 'Mortal Kombat.' The MK canon is so screwed up and confusing. I don't think we will ever see a Mortal Kombat followed by a number ever again. Technically, it should be MK8.
