This here link provides info about Kratos (from God Of War fame) appearing in the new MK game as a PS3 exclusive:

While this one stats something similar, along with the fact that soundbites have been leaked for Emac, Kabal, Stryker (boo!), Noob Saibot, Sindel (yay!), Quan Chi (Yay!), Shang Tsung (yay!), Goro, Kabal, and Smoke. Along with the return of Brutalities, although Bloody Shadow beat me to the soundbites... But this reinforces the Kratos idea:

Kratos could have sooo many possibilities for brutal fatalities. Although, his bladed weapons shouldn't be made too powerful. Don't want him being abused too much.

this is exactly what we DONT need right now ... seeing as how theres so much good news piling over each other ... this one ruins it all ....
its supposed to be an MK classic ... we dont want kratos or any other character in the game except mk ones ...... please mr. ed boon if you read this you must know that its a bad idea to feature other game characters in an MK classic game.
i was planning on buying this game on the ps3 for the 3d features
but now im definately buying it for the xbox 360
i hope they dont announce similar news for the 360
this whole thing is truly a let down ... but thats my opinion

I'm more inclined to agree with you.
After the game is made with MK warriors and fully fleshed out, maybe a guest character as a DOWNLOADABLE EXTRA would ne fun, but, c'mon.
Now... What do I have to say about this?

Ugh, this sickens me, this kind of thing is one of the many reasons I hate soul calibur. GAME FRANCHISES SHOULD NEVER MIX. Though kratos was a cool character for God of War, he should not be introduced to Mortal Kombat, but I am happy to here about him not being in the story mode. To end on a more positive note however, I am happy to here of the newest characters that have been confirmed, ive uploaded the audio strand to youtube but i do not know how long it will be there, I put the video on the site, though it could be down right now fo all I know.

Ok, so this makes it officially official that Kratos WILL appear in the upcoming MK, but it also officially makes Deathrider very very pissed off.
I totally agree with what has been said already. MK, especially right now, does not need anyone from any other franchises. Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge God Of War fan. Kratos is an amazing caracter, and one of the only video game characters that I can truely relate too... But I don't wanna see him in MK! I wanna see him in GoW.
What's really alarming about this is the notion that the Xbox 360 might also get an exclusive character, and they don't have anyone raw enough for MK's universe. I'll be super=pissed if I finder out that Master Chief, or some other such useless fucker appears on the roster.

At least Kratos will be excluded from the story mode (hopefully). Kratos can fit in, well, violence wise. As for the Xbox360 side, the only other person I can think of would be Marcus Fenix from Gears of War (hehe, another GoW), although he does use a lot of guns, so he could be out of the question. Seriously, Microsoft doesn't seem to have anyone on caliber with MK characters, or even Kratos for this matter.

I have to agree with the opinion already stated by a couple others here. There are enough MK characters as it is that should be included in this game, and to include a character from another franchise seems like a bad idea. It would be like including the Master Chief in the 360 version. It seems like a bad idea to include non-MK characters in a game that's supposed to be both serious and go back to the roots of MK.

Violence wise, yes! This is defo his ball-game. But apart from that, no... no... and no some more. They are taking a character from ancient Greece, and pitting him against movie stars, cyber-ninjas and the american millitary. That just doesn't wash with me at all. Even if he's not in the story mode, he's still in the wrong place.

Couldn't have put it better myself.
We all had a few chuckles when we bought MK Vs DCU, featuring Batman, Wonder Woman and whoever else, and then we all put the game away and happily forgot that it ever happened. The idea of others invading MK's universe didn't sit well with the old skool fans. Best off leaving cross overs to the likes of Capcom and Street Fighter.
Kratos, I love you and all, but I'd happily buy you a one way plane ticket from Outworld back to Greece to get your ass out of the new MK game.
