Well, I cant' be sure, but I also think that Scorpion wasn't in MK3 ... I just can't remember him ... I remember hin in every other MK, but not in MK3 ... maybe I'm wrong. If not, that puts Sub-Zero as the "supreme" kombatant ...

He wasn't. Scorpion and a few others (Kitana, Jade, etc) came back for the UMK3 update.

Scorpion made it in EVERY single MK game aside from the first-person games. Sub-Zero HAS NOT made it in every game.....well not the same Sub-Zero at least. A descendant of the original has been there since either MKII or MK3 (I can't remember) However, Scorpion was killed and returned immediately to avenge his death.....INCLUDING MK3. I remember specifically b/c that's who I kicked Shao Kahn's arse with second (first was Liu Kang).

Scorpion is not in MK3. Take a look an MK3 selection screen. There are 15 characters (including hidden Smoke). Scorpion is not one of them. He came back in Ultimate.

Those of you that stated that Scoprion was not in MK3.....ARE CORRECT!  Scorpion definitely was not apart of the original MK3, but as one or two you said he showed back up for UMK3. However, he's still the greatest and Ed Boon knew that by bringing him back.
