I think it is interesting to have a character such as Torch in MK:DA.
IMO, at the end there will be a 2 part cheat menu. You will need to get those 2 parts to activate the cheat menu.

I don't see why people are so eeked about getting a playable version of one of the old MK games. Personally, I own a Genesis and MK1 and 2. So I wouldn't be overly excited about getting more copies of those games. However, with the recent trend of including previous installments in new games (Panzer Dragoon Orta, House of the Dead III are examples), I wouldn't put it past the MK team to do that.
I also don't think that the big surprise will be a hidden character. Only because Boon announced the hidden character that ties into an MK 2. How would that be a surprise then? I think that this hidden character is number 22 or 23, and not the big surprise.
That said, what could this surprise be? If it's a two part deal (one half unlocked after defeating Konquest mode and the other half unlocked after unlocking all of the Koffins in the Krypt) like everyone says, than I think it's something bigger than a character, a background, or a previous iteration. Well, what can it be then? My thought is this:
1) Liu Kang: I know I just said that it wouldn't be a character, but it WOULD be a surprise if Kang is dead and then he turns up in the game. But it doesn't tie in with the two part surprise thing.
2) Create a character/Arena: Yeah, I wish
3) Cheat menu: Good idea Matrix. What this cheat menu would have on it besides one button fatalities however I have no idea.
4) Play as an MK Creator: As far fetched as this sounds, we've seen the creators all over past games, with voices, faces, etc. It wouldn't shock me to be playing as Ed Boon one week from now. Again, this is WAY far fetched.
5) A FINAL movie: Wouldn't it be sweet if we didn't have to wait until the next game to find out who won and what happened to all those that lost? I think it'd be freakin cool if they had a 15 or 20 minute movie that explains EVERYTHING that happened in the tournament.
I know that all five of these probably aren't likely at all, but I can dream can't I? I fear that I might be thinking too big here, and it could easily be a past MK game or a character or a background or something, but with all the work that we'll all put into (hmm, is it really work?) beating these games, I just have to believe that it'll be something unprecedented.

Since this is a BIG surprise, then it is obviuosly something we've never seen before. The ultimate surprise. I don't even know what it might be. I don't think it is a hidden character of backgroud. It's something better than that. Because isn't there going to be like 500 or 300 something koffins? Those things would be unlocked in the earlier numbers.
