When you cut people some slack, they don't learn anything. If you tell him what is wrong with it he will fix it for his next work. It will then turn out that much better.
I would suggest that you take more time to look at all the little details. Like names, life bars, anatomy, laws of reality, and shadows. Pay attention to the little details.
You could also make the stage look more original. change it and make it your own.
