As everyone sure has already noticed, MK9 totally takes it to the next level. But was that a good change? Was it fun to see more violence, or maybe too strange to the old games fans?

First and foremost, the change was indeed a good one. Mortal Kombat is all about blood and gore, and it wouldn't be the same without it. The only bad fatality, while funny when it pokes fun at MK vs. DCU, Shang Tsung's default could have been better. All the rest of the fatalities were right up each characters' alleys. The stage fatalities have vastly improved with the ways your victim can die. More detail and more blood. Especially with one of the stages where you can choose one of 3 ways your victim can die. When's the last time you did a stage fatality that you had options on how the loser dies?

Yeah, I guess you are right. But it was a bit strange, for the first time (I dunno) a MK game be rated not only mature, but adult. It was even banished in Australia.
I mean, I LOVED the changes. Now taking it back to the past. Did any of us ever think how far it could get? Like, compare these videos (in order, up to down).

That's not the first time an MK game was rated M, my friend. Mortal Kombat has been rated Mature as far back as MKT. Since then, my friend, games like MK Mythologies, Special Forces, Deadly Alliance, Deception, and Armageddon have all been rated the same.

Well i live in Australia so i dont have it yet but from what iv seen on many videos it doesnt look that much more full on then some the others. Problem with Australia is everyone made this big hype about its gonna be so bloody and full. Automatically everyone gets up in arms about it and either censor or ban them. Silly thing is games that arnt well know or no real media apon release can be alot worse but still pass. It just looks to me like the perfect MK

Actually, in my country it is rated adult.
But who actually does care? I mean, even back to the arcades, you would find tons of kiddos playing it. Boon sure overdid the violence, but that´s what everyone likes! That´s why I like it.
If it weren´t these stupid taxes.... I wouldn´t be posting this now.

Ah. The guidelines must be stricter as to what constitutes an M rated game in your country, my friend. In America, the only way they would rate a game AO (Adult Only) is if there was excessive nudity, close enough to a porno film, and most retailers in my country will not carry games with that rating.

Meh, some countries freak out even if there's PARTIAL nudity in a game. Foul language has been used in games for quite a long time, since I can remember, and that goes back as far as Metal Gear Solid on PlayStation, and that would most likely have been rated AO in your country, my friend.

You know, I just woke up and I had a weird dream. I dream that I was a kid and I wanted to buy UMK3 for DS, and the police arrested me....
I wonder if that was a message.

Ya i feel this mk is the best not only is there alot of blood and gore there is just so much to do. Then when psn comes back up ill have even more to do. Also i dont think i ever seen a AO game for consoles yet at least not in the US.

I feel that the violence in this game is as awesome as it has ever been, if not better. Looking back from Deadly Alliance through to Armageddon, the blood effects were a little silly looking.
As for the rating systems, Australia's is just ridiculous. They're not banning a game not only from children to early teens, but from adults too. They can't see that there are respectible adults out there who know what's right and wrong, and won't try to emulate the violence in a game like Mortal Kombat. Hopefully, when they finally put up the long awaited R18 rating for games there, they lift the ban on MK.
