First the marks:

GAMEPLAY: 8
GRAPHICS: 7
SOUND: 7
VALUE: 8
TILT: 9

TOTAL: 8.1
READERS' Reviews: 9.1

OK, these guys are a bit weird. I have read the review and found it odd. It's like the one who was writing it and grading it is not the same person.

They say that gameplay is good, that it is fresh enough, that it is even more diversified than Tekken 4 and VF 4 (!!!) and generally is very good. Yet, it is an 8, not 9.

But wait, the funny part comes with Graphics and Sound. The say that the 3D engine does a very good job, the textures are great (best on X-Box version, by the way), fatalities are great, animations are smoth, etc. But it is a 7 ... I mean, quite a few games get a 7 and it is a relatively low mark ... It should be at least an 8, if not a 9. Sound: they say that music is very good, that screams and groans while nt original, still do their job. They do however say that the game lacks voiceover in story text part. And I'm asking, who would be reading it? The same guy who says "FIGHT!"? I think that plain text makes it more serious and mysterious, we all do know how to read, don't we? The sound gets a 7 ... even some crapy games get an 8.

Value gets an 8. What should they have made to get it a 9 or a 10? 100 playable characters? 10 fatalities per character? All entire world as the background for fights? I mean, the games offers so many bonuses and secrets and it's only an 8. Do Tekken and VF4 offer that much?

These guys are biased. Look at Tekken reviews. Even the Tekken 4 which basically is a clone of a previous one got an 8.4 - higher than this, new, original game.

Just add one (or even 2) point to each category to get the real score. That's my opinion.

I preperchased mkda for Xbox and have been playing it for a few day and would have to agree whim the Gamespot rerview. The gameplay is fresh and new but the controls are chunky and flawed. The Graphics look good but the levels are blocked in by an invisable forcefield so you can't even push someone into a real wall or take the fight up the stairs or down the walkway right in frount of you.The sound is real strong and you can hear the bass in their pumping in you chest during a fight, but the music is not rememberable(you can't even use your own music on your hard drive X-Box owners). The thing that makes me angry are all of the hidden stuff. Most games give you at least 2 different costumes to start out with and have 2 or 3 hidden ones,MKDA only gives you 1 and you have to get lucky in the graveyard to find the others. I love Mortal Kombat, but this needed 2 or 3 more months to clean up (lots of glitches) before they released it. This is a fun game with a friend, but only buy it if you must own all the Mortal Kombat games. Rent it first. My final review for the game,
7.0 funfactor... Neutral

Well, your opinion is just us good as any other, but as I said, readers' reviews suggest a much higher score. Gamespot actually mentioned that music was good. The fact that you have to unlock stuff adds up to the experience. As for the forcefields ... I prefer having a limited but beautiful arena to a huge but plain one. I know forcefields suck, but they are there. They wouldn't have put them if it hadn't been necessary. My major complain is about music and graphics scores. A 7 is relatively low. There are plenty of games that have a 7 or even an 8 in those departments. Are they saying that the graphics are average? From what I've seen - they are not.

Yeah, most reviews rave about it, then give it a crappy 8. I think they just automatically take off 2 points because is Mortal Kombat.

With reviews like these, I wouldn't trust them near a game until they get throughly examined by eyecare professionals. Perhaps even a visit to a proctologist, too. Rolling Eyes
