I do it from a full screen away while in Fatality stance just in case that shit happens! 
Then again, isn't his Fatality B, F, F, F + 3?
I'm too lazy to check the guide.

if your playing the ps2 version of the game, hit L1 first so it shows up as Fatality. You can do the fatality from anywhere then although ive been able to do all them from almost anywhere without using that.

I check the fatality 'style' with L1, then I do the right move as you guys posted here, but Raiden then still does this stupid F,F,3 attack

Maybe it's the Playstation version, I have yet to fail Raiden's fatality on the X-BOX. B, F, F, F, 3. I always go into the fatality stance, but I've known it to not be necessary. I subconsciously use the stance, before I start performing a fatality combination. You must be pushing the wrong button anyway because his special move is F, F, 1 (NOT F,F,3).

He's got that grip & throw with F, F, 1 and he has a Thunder shoulder slam with F, F, 4. Hitting F, F, 3 does nothing in my experiance. For Raiden, I get a full screen away, change to "Fatality" stance, then type in B, F, F, F+3 and it works everytime.

What system? This game is easiest on Ps2. I've played it on all three systems, and I took back my copy for the game cube because the controller for it was so terrible. With the regular game cube controller there is impossible differientiation between right and up right or left and up left. Not good for fighting games. My friend (XBOX) had a similar problem and couldnt even bust out certain fatalities (I had that problem) because he had the first xbox controller, they have another one that has a defined directional pad. When we played on PS2 everything was much smoother.

The full screen away thing really isn't necessary, I'm guessing there's a difference between the PS2 version and the X-Box version. I stand right in their face sometimes and perform, never failed. Sorry Dark, you're jus' not a fatality pro like I am

Are you using the logic of forward and back rather than left and right? I do his fatality all the time. The only fatality that I can tell requires you to be one step behind fighting stance is scorpion B, B, D, B+4. The way to do the fatality wont be different from xbox to ps2. My friend that owned the xbox always had problems doing certain fatalities due to the weird directional pad.

Why do I keep hearing all this mess about the X-Box controller having a weird directional pad? I've yet to notice any problems with the directional pad on the X-Box, I'm thinking that people aren't used to yet. I don't have any problems with any moves, fatalities, or anything like that. Scorpion's fatality can also be done anywhere on stage.
