Introduction: Okay by the second week of playing Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance you should (in my opinion) already have found the character you work best with. The character that fights in styles you can identify with, the character in which you are committed to learning every move, every combo, every aspect of. The character in which you devote (or plan to) hours just in the simple practice mode, trying out combos, new techniques or for beginners just discovering and committing to memory their basic moves and attributes. You must devote time in the practice mode if you ever want to master the character you choose to emulate. Make sure you know what moves go with what styles, this is what I found to be the most difficult aspect of the game, it takes time but itÂ’s worth it.
For me I chose Johnny Cage. If you are reading this FAQ then either you have chosen him as well or you arenÂ’t sure yet as to which character you wish to devote your game time using. For me the choice was difficult, after all Scorpion has the easy to use combos, BlazeÂ’s speed and power are the best in the game and do not underestimate Sub Zero, Raiden, Reptile and the rest. Any character can be mastered and ultimately deadly given enough time (Yes even Drahmin). But I like using Cage because he's fast, his moves are creative and innovative, (his specials could have been better but his fighting stances are unique) and IÂ’ve been a Johnny Cage fan for a while.
Now this is not an RPG in that you do not have to offer all of your time to it. I have a life, a new wife, and a child so do not think that to master a character you must stay in a small room until your skin turns pale and your friends all think youÂ’ve died. For me I play about two hours a night, mostly in the practice mode because for me that is where my time is best spent, IÂ’ve played the arcade and Konquest modes sure but for me mastering JohnnyÂ’s combos, and committing them to memory while discovering when to implement them is the foundation for a newly purchased game. This guide will tell you all of the tricks I had to discover from those relaxing and some times ultimately frustrating two hours.
Fighting Style’s: Johnny Cage’s karate stance is a decent defensive stance but it lacks any real low attacks. In his karate stance he can perform his flip kick (Up + B) and his double flip kick (Up + B, B) this is a fun move that is hard to defend against, it is best used at the end of his Karate combos. The ‘special move’ button in his karate stance performs a shove, this move “shoves” a blocking opponent, and this can be very useful when your up against a strictly defensive opponent. He can perform a “pop up” move in this stance as well (Forward + Y) this slams the opponent to the ground and the force of impact makes the character “pop” back up leaving him defenseless and leaving you with the option of repeating the attack.
Johnny Cage’s major stance is Jet Kune Do; it is in this stance that he can perform both good mid and low attacks. In his Jet Kune Do stance he can perform his Juggle Knuckle Fist Pop Up attack (Back, X) this is not unlike his pop up move in his Karate stance in that he can repeat it after the first connects. This move “pops” his opponent in the air leaving you plenty of time to repeat it. The ‘special move’ button in his Jet Kune Do stance performs a taunt. A taunt is an action the character performs that boosts his health to a certain degree. You need a moderate amount of time to perform a taunt so make sure your opponent is relatively far away before you attempt this. A good technique to use is the Shadow Kick (Left, Right + B) this knocks your opponent away giving you ample time to preform the taunt saftley.
Johnny Cage’s weapon stance is the nunchaku, this is my favorite weapon stance on account of its speed and it’s interesting combos. It does have a downside however; it is a close combat weapon, which means you need a pretty good strategy when dealing with Raiden’s long staff or even Sub Zero's large Kori Blade. He also has a “pop up” move in his Nunchaku stance called a Cross Back Strike. This is similar to the Juggle Knuckle Fist Pop Up in his Jet Kun Do stance and the Double Kick Flip in his Karate Stance in that he can repeat the move while his attacker is still reeling from the impact of the first. The ‘special move’ he can perform in this stance is the Side Step Swing which is just another form of Scorpion's Side Step Swing only with nunchaku instead of a katana.
Johnny CageÂ’s special moves are his Forceball, his Shadow Kick, and his Uppercut. His Shadow Kick is extremely useful to end combos with, but you canÂ’t use this unless you know your going to hit your opponent because if he blocks then the opposition has a great combo opportunity. Use the Johnny Uppercut to dodge projectiles, for example when you'r attacking scorpion and he launches his spear, just preform the move and you can not only dodge the spear but also take full advantage of his suspended state, used properly it could mean the difference from victory and defeat.
Come on what do you think? What should I change and what do you think I need to add to this rough introduction. Any input would be greatly appreciated _________________ "Johnny Cage Wins!" First off, I am surprised, in a good way, to hear that a family man is playing MK:DA and is devoting time to master one aspect of it. However, there are too many worthwhile characters to master, in my opinion. i would like to devote my time to mastering all of the characters, even Hso Soa who dont really like that much (other thqan his fetality which I beleive is one of the best). I will say that I am close to mastering Mavado and Kenshi but if someone said that I could only choose one character to master I would probably choose Nitara becuase I beleive she is the most unique, especially her weapon(s) of choice, out of all the characters old or new.
As for your actual FAQ, you should really go more in depth with the combos as how to do them as well as the special moves and you should really include the multiple style combos as well. Other than that, you did a good job, it is very informative.
p.s. dont take my words too seriously for I know litle to nothing about FAQ's hehe

Sure youve got a point, I should probably spend more time on his speacial move section, and I will have a combo section eventually, and that's where I plan to give all my combo feedback. I mean latley I've been playing with a pad of paper writing down certain aspects of the character's combo's to put in the FAQ (listed combos and what's the damage, my own combos and certain moves you should use given certain cercumstances, e.t.c.)
Thanks for the feedback, I'll keep it in mind.
Oh yea and I could not imagine trying to master all of the characters at once. For me I would get their combos and special moves confused but you sound like you know what your talking about so good luck to ya! _________________ "Johnny Cage Wins!" yes in MK1 and 2 cage was great gotta take your word for it with MK4 because when 3 and 4 came out I was dealing with college, marriage, kids, a house and a new career, didn't have a whole lot of time for video games . _________________ "Johnny Cage Wins!" Sounds good, but in Karate he has amove where he can sidestep and kick. Though the range is EXTREMELY small, it helps a bundle. ....when in Nunchaku stance, try sidestepping enemy attacks and then comboing--it works beautifully if timed right. _________________ Those were $500 sunglasses, asshole.

I never cared for Cage personally, I guess it's obvious who I favor and who I WOULD master if I were to try one at a time. I personally jus' pick someone and master them in the time it takes me to beat the game with them. I totally disagree with practice mode being the best way to learn moves/combos/etc. Reason being.....your opponent doesn't move. Now what good is it learning all these combos to a defenseless opponent that stands there and take whatever abuse you dish out. The absolute BEST way to master a particular character is to play the CPU on the hardestl level (MAX). Here, you're not only getting offensive practice, but ALSO defensive practice and we all know that the best offense is a great defense. Especially in this game because my cousin is a button-smasher in a way. I played him the other night and because I have such great practice on the defensive end, he missed more than 80 percent of his attacks to simple side-steps and on-timed reversals/blocks. He got frustrated and eventually realize that he needs to not be so aggressive and learn the actual buttons because attacking "full-throttle" gets gamers nowhere in Deadly Alliance. _________________ I'm back once again......I'm in need of a new avatar......Anyone that may want to help send a PM

true in the arcade mode you can work on your defense but what I'm talking about is commiting combos to memory and preforming them flawlessley, so when you push the difficulty up to hardest you won't hesitate in the middle of a combo ro accidentally push a button that stops the combo mid-way. _________________ "Johnny Cage Wins!" I like Cage, I usually devote time to Frost and Kitana. _________________ The end will consume us all.
