Sub-zero killed scorpion before the MK tournament even started...Scorpion came back to kill sub-zero in the first MK. when sub reappears in MK2...scorpion goes after him but realizes thats not the sub that killed him years ago..and spares his life...in Mk4 quan chi tells scorpion sub killed his family when he was dead. Scorpion was never suppose to see/remeber his family because he came back from the dead. but this enrages him still and his old vendetta with Sub comes back. scorpion confronts sub and beats the shit outta him then Quan chi comes up and tell scorpion he killed his family. quan chi needed to kill sub-zero for him. quan chi opens a portal to the netherealm and sends scorpion in. scorpion...i guess throws a spear at him and takes him in the netherealm also.
(this is from all the endings/stories from each game...they fudged up his story because he was suppose to be Sub-Zero#2's protector but in MK4...Scorpion hates sub-zero)
in MK:DA scorpion is still after quan chi

If I remember correctly...
Scorpion was a former member of the Lin Kuei, he was kicked out after he got married and had a child, he was then killed by Lin Kuei for breaking the rules of the organization, but was later resurrected by Demons. The yellow color for his costume is to signify shame, because he lost his honor.
Scorpion was killed by the 5th Sub Zero, and the Lin Kuei was responsible for his family's murder. IN MK1 when Scorpion realized he wasn't the same Sub Zero that killed him, he spared his life.
Then in MK2, the younger brother of Sub Zero took his brother's name and Scorpion became his protector until MK4. This is the Sub Zero that we have been following all the way until MK5 correct?
After finding out that Quan Chi was responsible, he pulled Quan Chi down to the Nether-Realm, he chased him around, tormenting him every chance he got. Quan Chi fooled Moloch and Drahmin in protecting him. They also revealed a hidden passage out of realm, which Quan Chi took to get out, leaving Moloch and Drahmin behind. This pissed them off because they were promised passage to the World Above where they could eat mortals.
So all 4 fighters: Scorpion, Moloch, Drahmin and Quan Chi got out of the NetherRealm.
Quan Chi learned some new mystic arts, travelled the world looking for the meaning of the Gem Stone he uncovered the Armies, made the Alliance.
Scorpion chased Quan Chi in the Outworld, but was found by Moloch and Drahmin first. They made a secret alliance with Shang Tsung as bodyguards against Quan Chi's treachory. Scorpion was overpowered and was hurled into the Soul-Nado (lame name), his hell-spawn body was ripped apart. No word yet about his immortal soul, which lives on.

Last week I played Mk4. I finish the game with Sub-zero. I seen Sub-zero's ending. What happen is that Scorpion was telling sub-zero if he kill him his soul will live on. Sub-zero was telling scorpion that he did not kill his family. So Quan Chi came behind Sub-zero and hit the of his back of his head.Quan Chi thanks Sub-Zero for defending Scorpion and ask him to join Shinnok. But Sub-zero deny.So Quan Chi stomped Sub-zero's cest in.And Scorpion got back on his feet and did a move that picked up Quan Chi and blow him in to pieces and his head round on the ground, a I mean that scorpion kill Quan chi with a blast move.So scorpion told Sub-zero that his curse is over and have a good live Lin knei warrior.

Yes Sub Zeros ending in MK4 is sweet. Because Scorpion kills Quan Chi.
