I think that MK:DA was a really good start for the next generation of MK games. It was a rebirth of sorts, and as such, did some things well and others not so well. I've played that game inside and out and have this much to say on what Boon and company did well:
Good- character selection (for the most part)
Good- arenas
Good- hand to hand combat
Good- weapon combat
Good- konquest mode
Good- krypt
Good- main plot
However there are other things that could be pushed on:
Not so good- secrets (to the best of my knowledge, Blaze and Mokap are the ONLY secrets in this game. BOOOO!)
Not so good- fighting styles- It was cool to see all the styles, but none of them were done to the best of their ability (a wrestler that only has three throws? COME ON!!)
Not so good- Fatalities- In a word: Mediocre, in two words: Lacking originality
Not so good- Stale factor. As new as some stuff seemed, there were stale storylines for several characters (cough, Jax and Sonya, cough the whole outworld investigation agency group hack) and several characters that just bored me (a female sub zero seeeemed like a good idea, oh, and Cyrax sucks)
So that's my opinion. Personally, I think that they should keep:
Mavado
Shang Tsung
Kitana
Kung Lao
Kenshi
Sub Zero
Scorpion
Drop:
Hsu Hao (horrible, just horrible)
Frost
Cage (he's dead...I'll say it again...HE'S DEAD)
Li Mei
Sonya
Jax
Kano (end the most boring plot in this series...Please)
Moloch
Reptile (if he keeps "devolving," he'll keep looking more stupid)
Quan Chi (either keep him and change his fighting styles or lose him)
Cyrax (snoooooze)
Nitara (Lets lose the Darkstalkers wannabe)
Drahmin (HE DOESN'T DO ANYTHING!)
Rayden (Time to take this new direction even further)
Bring back:
Kabal (completely new look, without the respirator)
Shao Khan
Smoke
That's ten returning characters, give us ten new selectable characters and five hidden characters and I'm set. That said, I hope that MK6 gets better about the fatalities. C'mon! We're not living in 1992 anymore. We've seen Grand Theft Auto. Surprise us! Gross us out!! Don't have a guy jump on someone's shoulders and stretch his freakin neck out for shit's sake.
Also, and I'll end my diatribe here. They need to take what they did well with MK:DA and go with it. Take the new plot and go with it. Take the fighting syles and go with (and actually make them look like the real fighting styles this time), and give Soul Calibur a REAL run for its' money in the weapons combat. Give us stage fatalities. Give us UNIQUE characters that don't look like guys from the past or a simple set of boobs. Does anyone wonder why only TWO women from this entire series have made it this far?? Because they're all plain. Give us special moves that serve a greater purpose than knocking someone up in the air . Give us more special moves while you're at it. Two or three per character isn't good enough.
Again. I'm not dissing the series. I love MK and I always have. Like I said, MK:DA is a great rebirth for the series. Now they just need to trim the fat in all areas and exploit what they did well. Oh, and write a better script this time, so magazines can stop saying that it's a fighting game with plot that any porno can best. I'm really sick of hearing that. I like most of the plots.
PS: If I pissed you off, I'm sorry. I'm just stating my opinion.

Sektor and Smoke should be in the game and they should bring back the stage fatalities.
Scorpion, Sub Zero, Reptile, Johnny Cage, Sonya, Cyrax and Jax have to return.
That's it.

Bring back Sheeva, Jade, and Smoke lose Frost, Cage and Bo Rai Cho. Create a new charater usig frost model and introduce a female Brakaka and add a tag mode also bring back the stage fatalites and make the controls a lil' more esier and sevrel new charaters.

I'm so glad you people don't make any MK games.
Well,anyway,i disagree with many of you.
Who should return
Li Mei-she has potential storywise.And she's so fun to use.
Drahmin and Moloch-AWESOME!I love these two Oni.The Oni story is one of the best addition to MK.Drahmin will come back as a human.I really hope Boon doesn't listen to the useless beginners who hate Drahmin.Moloch rocks too.He should returns as a playable character.
Stryker-Like Li Mei,he has potential.
Hsu Hao-He rocks.He should kill Jax,Sonya and Cyrax.
Mavado-Cool as Hell.Perhaps one of the coolest-looking characters ever.I like the Red Dragon story.
Nitara-It was about damn time they had a vampire in MK.
Frost-Great character.
Johnny Cage-he could be the new hero.Screw Kung Lao.
Tsung or Quan Chi-They're both good characters.
Sektor-The best cyborg.
Jade-She should be the game's black character.Fuck Jax,Cyrax and Kai.
Mileena-she finally kills Kitana.
Reptile-As the boss.
Khameleon-Reptile's henchwomen.The game's sub-boss.Why not have a female sub-boss for once?
Kabal-Hidden character,back for revenge.
Classic Sub-Zero-Hidden character,hunting down Scorpion for unjustly killing him.
Nightwolf-As a werewolf.
Smoke-Any forms,i don't care.
Baraka
Rain

You know how I feel about Drahmin, but Moloch would be an unusal selectable character so I doubt they did that.

No potential here. He was a renegade cop, he doesn't really fit.

I think it'll happen, but I'd be dissappointed when it does. Well not all of them, but either Jax or Sonya and the survivor will return to avenge their partner's death along with Cyrax.
Mavado-Cool as Hell.Perhaps one of the coolest-looking characters ever.I like the Red Dragon story.
Totally agree with ya here. Mavado has the greatest potential imo. He'll return wearing Kano's metal eyepiece around his neck as a mockery of murdering him.
Nitara-It was about damn time they had a vampire in MK.

Can't agree here, Kung Lao is one of my favs. He'll avenge his brother's (Liu Kang)death with the help of Raiden. Johnny's story is stale imo.
Tsung or Quan Chi-They're both good characters.
I like em' both, but Shang should finally be killed off. Leaving Quan and the Dragon King for MK6's new bosses. Quan will be the leader of the Dragon King's army.
Sektor-The best cyborg.
He's done. Let it go.

I like Jax and Cyrax. Coming from a black guy though there should be more than one or two black characters anyway. All of the above should return with the exception of Kai.

This is similar to what I already said on the MKROK forum. Only I said Hsu Hao will return with Jax's bionic arms.

He's coming back. I can almost gurantee it. He'll get his ancestors back after Kung Lao has sliced Shang completely open with his hat.

She's not stale, but I think she should be sidelined whether than killed.

I am just listing who I think should stay or go. Also who needs brought back.
Stay: Shang Tsung, Quan Chi, Reptile, Li Mei, Raiden, Molach, Drahmin, Hsu Hao, Mavado, Nitara, Kitana, and a few others I cant think of.
Go: Cage, Sonya, Jax, Kano, Scorpian, Sub Zero, (yes I know I get flamed here for the Scorpian and Sub Zero thing, yes they are 2 of the original characters but they have gotten old and stale. Ninjas got old a long time ago)
Return: KABAL, Styker, (and he should kill Jax in the opening movie for stealing his guns), Smoke (Non-Cyber or regular ninja), Jade, and Shao Kahn.

yeah or both of em. I know alot of people hate Fujin thats probly why he wasn't there but i wish they'd of atlest worked up a story for him. Like he felt like he couldn't handle the job and gave it back to Raiden or he got killed, somthing.

Fujin could returns...and get killed.Its pretty obvious that those who banned Drahmin and Moloch in the netherealm were the Elder Gods.So,Drahmin and Moloch both plan their revenge.Fujin is in Outworld,because Raiden needs him.Drahmin and Moloch comes out of nowhere and attacks Fujin.Moloch mutilates him,and Drahmin smash his head.Fujin is dead.
