I dont think he was. It was just a clan fight between Sub and Scorpion and Scorp lost. I dont think Quan had a part in his death...

From what I knew, Scorpion was out to avenge his death in MK1.
MK2, never died.
MK3, Shao Kahn trying to take it over late him out
MK4, He was told that the other Sub killed his family. I am not sure if this was after, or before he had gotten out of the netherealm. Although if it were be4, then it would show he had to avenge his family and clan, therefore letting him go.
MK:DA, followed Quan Chi. The 2nd time, he knew that Quan had killed his family, and, so now he has to avenge his family, so until he kills Quan Chi. I guess he can keep esacping.
