the answer to how can they make a movie so fast, is that it doesn't have to be out by August. Unless I missed an official announcement, then I heard that August thing ages ago from imbd (or so... not sure what exactly it was). And most stuff there is false.
you would wait for 3 years, to see a 2 hours long movie. What else can you do? 
naw, MK has not been a classic or anything... but that doesn't stop it from becoming that. Though, true, it most likely won't.
Cage was very OK in movies, but bringing him back from dead would not be OK. Though... don't get your hopes up. By all odds he's in.

I figure if they wanna make the movie any good they release around the time MK6 is released in 2004...probably next summer.
