i think that the spiral began after MK2 but i dont think it was a dramatic downfall. It had sum gud story lines and 2 tell u the truth, b4 i nvr cared about storylines, i jus played the game. all i no is sub zero and the lin kuei had a wicked story line. but shit really hit the fan on MK4, not only were the graphics cheesy, but the gameplay and the characters sucked aswell. i think MK Gold brought the series bak up, folowed by the awesome MK DA

Sektor, I wouldnt exactly say that MK2 / MK3 gameplay 'sucked' man.
I agree that MK4 was harder tho. But all AI has a weakness haha

Well, what I mean by saying the MK2/3 gameplay sucks is: In Mk2, the opponents could throw their projectiles whenever they wanted to. They didn't have to do a "button combination", they could immediately throw their projectiles...sometimes even three in a row (Kitana often does that).
And you guys all know MK2's Cheap-throws that the opponents do.
And during the last 5 fights in MK2...it seems to me that the opponents can predict what you're about to do.
In MK3, the opponent is just WAY too hard. I cannot even beat the game on VERY EASY!!(maybe I just don't know important tactics) And I think I'm a good MK-player cause I can easily beat MK1, 4 and DA.
MK4 is a very good game IMO. MK2 and 3 are too hard for me.

i know what you mean about MK3 being hard nomatter what the difficulty i just cant beat Motoro (if i can even get that far) i have only compleated the game once

I didnt really like MK3 I think that it lost some of its zip when they tried to remove everyones favorite characters and was it just me or did mortal kombat 2 have better graphics than mortal kombat 3?

MK3 was the beginning. It was the disappoinntment that made others move away from MK. The characters were a big dissappointment. UMK3 was even worse, adding characters was good, but the difficulty was ridiculous, amoungst other errors. (I think UMK3 was the worst fighting game, but MK3 STARTED the downward spiral.) and MKT was better than MK3 and UMK3, IMO. I think it improved on it, but it was just slightly better than MK3. MKSF was the absolute worst MK game, period. If you don't agree, then, honestly, I'm sure you didn't play it. But ask any non-MK fan about MKM: Sub-Zero, and they will say it sucked. MK fans liked it, but it wasn't really good. MK4 was better than UMK3 and MKT, but it's difficulty was too easy.
So, the worst games, IMO are, from worst, up: MK:SF, UMK3, MKM:Sub-Zero, MK3.
I still like MK3, but the others up there are just crap.

i cant believe some of u are saying mk2 is better than MK:DA thats just utter stupidity.i personally enjoy all the mk games exept for SF(because ive never played it) but MK:DA has to be the best one so far....

the worst ones were mk trilogy and mk special forces.
mk trilogy was just a rip off of mk 1,2,3. the only thing extra were a few characters
mksf was chaos even before it started. two of the main crators of the game left the production of mksf, that's why it sucked

I thought mythologies was o.k, but when MK4 was released...that was the downfall. It had super bad graphics, the story was boring, gameplay was boring...everything about it sucked. MK4 is the game that made me start hateing MK. I couldnt understand why they moved it to be 3D (which i hated the 3D idea), going to 3D was their downfall. MKDA ressurected mortal kombat and it actually got me to accept the fact that it's 3D, now i like it better in 3D than 2D!

I think it was a combination of things. One was the babalities and friendships and crap(I actaully liked the animalities) that was poking fun at the whole 'MK being demonic and having too much violence' non sense. Then I think it was the fact that there were soooo many characters that looked the same. Like Jade, Kitana, Mileena, and all the ninja's. They would never do that now because the gaming technology is waaay better so each character will have their own uniqueness. And the third thing, at least for me is that we don't really know how much time has passed between the games. Plus, in DA's case, we don't know which story is true.
Plus if I'm not mistaken, aren't there some plot holes?
