I have both and trust me that X-Box is stronger tech-wise. PS2 is way better with games line-up though, but that seems to be changing this year, so, don't underestimate X-Box, it's future is brightest of all for me. If you really are into games, own both. What I don't understand is why people defend GCN so much. I have money to buy it, I have played it several times but it just doesn't appeal to me in almost any way. There is nothing so far that would wake at least a tiny desire in me to buy it.

I was originaly planning on buy a Cube, but due 2 the fact that it has no DVD compatibily, I'd decided 2 buy the X (it's alot cheaper then ps2 btw)

I can see no real advantages (except for the price) that GCN has over the other two, but I sure see plenty of shortcomings (no DVD, poor games line-up, restricting mini-disc format, awkward multiplayer, generally kids only oriented games). I think that PS2 has the most value of the three and IS the choice to be when buying your first console. I'd go for X-Box if you want to expand.

It also has Gran Turismo and Metal Gear Solid (well, the later did get released on other consoles as well, though much later) thus basicly covering the need in every genre. Plus it has many other high quality games (DMC, Jak & Daxter, Onimusha, and other upcoming). Plus, all the multiplatform games DO get their PS2 version in 99% of cases. So PS2 looks like a very obvious choice to me.
You will want X-Box for some more technologically advanced games that PS2 simply cannot handle: Fable, Deus Ex 2, Thief III (though it will be released for PS2 but downgraded), Splinter Cell, Halo, Starcraft: Ghost (I can't remeber if the later two will be on PS2, but I'm sure they will be "weaker" in any case). X-Box offers the most developed multiplayer, it has an in-built hard drive and some other high tech features. That's what made it an obvious choice for "second console" for me.
GCN does have some merits of its own, but personally for me, they are way too few to buy it.

Each system has its strengths and weaknesses. It's all about opinion, so let's not start a console bashing thread here.
I myself have a GameCube and PlayStation 2. I like both of them a lot, but I like the PS2 better mostly because of the controller. GC still has some kick ass games.

DC was an excellent console R.I.P DC 
Anyway, I can tell you now that the hardware in the GC is way underestimated. It can pull off anything PS2 / XBOX can, in fact I think the GFX thats come from the GC are alot more sharp. True, the games are lacking but you cant compare that to PS2 which has been out for years now, and the XBOX is funded by MS, which means alot to developers. GC are still making good games, like Zelda....I have MK:DA on it Sonic Mega Collection + Resident Evil Remake, And they all kick ass.

To conclude my point regarding GCN: it is good and it can't actually be bad otherwise they'd have already ruined. And it does have good games like the abovementioned Zelda series, Metroid and several others. And yes, I guess it is more powerfull graphics-wise than PS2. I do think however that it still is behind X-Box in this department. The problem with GCN is its games line-up. Having bought PS2, there was hardly anything on GC I was willing to die for to play. There are several great games but they are not like "number one priority".
I have heard that the 1st RE remake was outstanding, but the other two were down right horrible, is that so? Also, once Nintendo's contract with Capcom expires, I guess that RE0 and RE4 will be released for other consoles too. Like the RockStar Games did with Sony.
I'd be very carefull buying GCN. My advise - go to any good gaming site. And look through every single game in their list for each console and look at the review grade. Write down the games you are interested in most and you'll be having the console you need, judging by the most important point - games. I'd go to IGN or GamesRevolution for this purpose.
