Why is Mortal Kombat 1 on SNES not gorey, but the arcade version of the same game is?

Well that's different. Gamecube wasn't always as kiddie-safe as the SNES was. _________________ ** formily known as Blackened **

Are MK 2 and 3 on SNES gorey? The litres and litres of blood that spill out of an enemy after one punch is one of the factors that defines a MK game...

Nintendo wanted to retain their family image by censoring MK1 on SNES. When the Genesis version outsold the SNES version out the hole, Nintendo allowed MK2 and up to be uncensored. _________________ Staff Member - MK Shin - The MK Glitch Archive

Yeah remember MK 1 started a whole controversy with the gore and blood stuff that was not usual for home systems at that time (1993)... _________________

Couldn't have said it better than myself.
Yeah, Nintendo thought that if they put out a game with substantial blood and gore, it would hurt their reputations. All it really did was hurt their profit margin with the release of the Genesis version of MK. Nintendo did not want to make that mistake again and that is why Mk2 was with gore. _________________

Note that when MK1 came out it was the first of its kind and considered very bloody. In Australia there was a 15,000 dollar fine if an arcade allowed the blood and fatalities on their machine a while after they came out. Although that was lifted some months later.
Today there is no point to have these bans. Well no point because a game won't really contribute to bad behaviour as many thought back then.

Yeah But SNES came out over ten years ago when the laws were more strict and GameCube came out a few years ago. Today a lot of games can pass through. Back then they couldn't. _________________ -----------------------------------

Genesis was turned off by default. But if you put in a code you could enable blood and fatalities. Only the SNES version came out with the no blood and gore shit. Don't know why. I think its because it came out on Sega before Nintendo. *shrugs* _________________ -----------------------------------

BTW there is a hacked version of MK1 for SNES. It's called Mortal Kombat Turbo and contains all the blood and fatalities. _________________ Webmaster of Mortal Kombat Secrets - www.mksecrets.net
