The other games are run-offs! MKDA (5) is a sequal to the "fighting" games...so it really is MK 5!

Yes, you even proved it wrong again yourself Warpath. You put up UMK3 and MK3. If it were to be MK9, then why two 3's? Plus, they are what Kage said. Run offs. The run offs help the story of particular characters.
You want to know what is the real game order right...?
Here they are.
Mortal Kombat 1
Mortal Kombat 2
Mortal Kombat Trilogy
Mortal Kombat Gold
Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance
The reason why I skipped the MK3's and MK4 is because they had a successor.
When MK3 came out, people complained that Scorpion and some other fighters weren't there. That's why UMK3 came out. Then someone at Midway mentioned about putting all the fighters in one game. So they took everyone from MK3 and UMK3, and put them in just one game. They also put some characters from the even more previous games as well. All the past bosses minus the Old Shang Tsung. Mortal Kombat Trilogy was meant to be a self made project but Boon wanted to see if it would make any sales and had people test it. It did make some people very entertained that you have all the fighters and a wild range of choices. That took the place of MK3 and UMK3.
Mortal Kombat 4 came out and Midway were already still in the process of making the game but were adding onto it. They released a final copy of that game and that is now known as Mortal Kombat Gold, which took the place of Mortal Kombat 4.
Now Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance, is is the right postion sitting at number 5. Hence the big metal 'V' in the logo with blood dripping from it. It stands for the roman numeral of 5. So if you want my opinion, ask a little question, get a big answer.

UltimateMK3-not a tournament, becase people wanted to be able to use charcters from the past..mainly Scorpion.
MKTrilogy-1996-not a tournament,
break the rules set forth by the elder gods,
shao khan decides to bring back Sindel from death ,
and step through the portals into earth realm
^^^3 things..hence "trilogy" of events
Sub-ZeroMythology's, happend way before MK1.
But once again..about that damb amulet..this set the stage for MK4 to make sense.
MK4-1998-offical trounament
MK4GOLD-1999-not a tounrament ,more charcters, same idea as trilogy except with no knew characters developments, same story as MK4.
Special Forces-2000-not A Tournament, just tells the tales of Sonya and Jax, kano
MK5(MKDA)-2002-offical Tournament
