Yes, with their "soul returning machine" ? I mean seriously. I don't really like the idea that they "returned his soul". I think of it more like they found him in the desert, and reprogrammed him to be their allie. It would make more sence and flow better. Also, is sektor dead? I know that him and Sub-Zero fought for the medallion thing and Smoke helped Sub to beat Sektor, but does that mean he's dead, or he just lost?
Off topic: I was pleased to see that Ermac is NOT dead. (refer to Kenshi's konquest storyline. It says he learned his telekenetic slam from Ermac in exchange for freeing him from Outworld). However I'm pissed off that you never hear anything of Rain. His MK3 ending says he went on a suicide mission to kill Kahn. But Liu could have probably killed him before Rain tried to. So where the hell is he? IMO he and Kitana should hook up and rule Edenia together.
On topic: I just want to at leased see Smoke return. Whether he has his own game, or he's just in the next one, it would be good have him back.
