That is correct.
Upon recieveing the map of elements, Quan Chi laid the bones of the Shirai Ryu at the feet of the Lin Kuei and informed him that everyelse was killed. (Meaning Scorpion's family.)

And since Hanzo begged for Sub-Zero to spare him, and he did not, it fueled his rage. He made a deal to be reborn as the spectre Scorpion, but was doomed to remain that way forever if he accepted the deal.

Scorpion accepted and slew Sub-Zero (after Mortal Kombat I). After; he was sent back to Hell, but then was revived after he heard Sub-Zero was in fact entering the next Mortal Kombat (Mortal Kombat II). While going to attack Sub-Zero, he realized it was Sub-Zero's younger brother. Scorpion vowed to protect this Sub-Zero due to the fact he slew his elder brother. He assisted the Earth warriors against Shao Kahn (Mortal Kombat III). But afterwards was cast again to Hell. He was not revived until Shinnok's rise (Mortal Kombat IV), in which Quan Chi revived him in order to slay Sub-Zero. Scorpion would not accept, but Quan Chi claimed it was this Sub-Zero who slew Scorpion's family. While attacking Sub-Zero again, the younger brother informed Scorpion that it was none other than Quan Chi who was the slayer (which leads to an entire different story).

But they never revived Scorpion, he was in the first 3 tournaments just to slain Sub-Zero so he scaped from hell and in Mortal Kombat 4 it's that Quan Chi said to Scorpion that Subbie slain his family and he offered him life in exchange for serving him as a Shinnok's general

You said that he was revived, but he was still a death ninja, revived means living again, but he was a spectre and all, He scaped from Netherealm and in MK4 he was liberated from hell by Quan Chi, but he never was alive.

The classic warriors should never be changed, or the graphics should make the characters have their similar appearances from the classics. Classic characters rule. Never change anyone, especially Scorpion, Sub-Zero, or Reptile.

i'd have to say unmasked because even though masked SZ had more of a "touch me and i kill you" attitude, i can Kick almost anybody's ass with unmasked, i hope the next MK will have the option to have him masked and un-masked, i'd do that a lot
