Actually he left the games due to disagreements about stuff concerning MK. HOWEVER!!! he is a writer for the script of the coming MK3 movie.

Tobias Tobias, oh the Johns of the world have us all.
Tobais was a graphic artist. As you most likely know. He had left midway part of the way through the making of MK Special forces as mentioned. The reasons as to why he left he never stated. But it is believe that he felt like he was being restricted artistically speaking where it came to the storyline.
He also was upset about UMK3 mk3 was his storyline. UMK3 was changed, and not his own in his eyes. So he had nothing to do with MK4 and MK:DA.
As to why he could be allowed a writer, 1) he was THE main writer for the early mk's. 2) He still has a hand in the franchise. Because he was co-creator.

Yea, Tobias did work on MK4.
It is said that he never wanted all the "updates" like UMK3, Trilogy and MKGold to be released because he didn't see them as whole games, but rather as quickly made products to earn some more money with the name Mortal Kombat. Boon, however, wanted these games to be released.

That's one thing that's kind of screwed MK over, all the revised games. I think they would have been smartest making the games in the following order:
MK1
MK2
MKT (it had everything MK3 and UMK3 had plus more. It would have been called MK3 though)
MK Gold (called MK4)
MKDA.
The MK team seemed to loose a lot of fans when they kept sticking with the old style MK fighting games, rather than proceeding to the 3D style. They also screwed up by constantly making revised games. Tobias was smart in that respect that he didn't want to just make quick released games.

he was in mk4 only as an artist. nothing more. anyways whocares if he left. MKDA had a GREAT storyline, great characters and the best character desgin ive seen thus far.

Tobias wanted liu to be champ but Boon wanted Scorp so they split.
That is just a possibility.
Anyway I liked the revised game very much and yes they really had importance in the main story.
ps : Reptilewinns I live in Canada too ( If that is true to you are saying )
