While watching the MK movie, I realized someting. Lets go back 500 years. Shang Tsung, former champion, beats up and takes peoples souls. Then original Kung Lao come along and Shang Tsung gets his ass on a plater. New CHampion, Kung Lao. THen Goro came along....New Champion. 9 Mortal Kombats later, Johnny Cage kills Goro, which should makes JOHNNY CAGE the new champion. But noones tells him, noone one cares. Liu Kang kills Shang Tsung, and they call him the Champion. But Shang Tsung wasnt the REIGNING champion, Goro was. Johnny Cage is the Mortal Kombat champion, not Liu Kang.

if you remember, jonny cage made a deal with shang tsung that no matter what would happen in cage's fight with goro, shang tsung would be allowed to face an opponent of his choice in the arena of his choice.
otherwise, why would they have all gone to outworld?

Also, dont forget what Rayden told Liu Kang:
Liu Kang "Will Shang Tsung compete in the tournament?"
Rayden "If he chooses to, as the former champion he has the right to do so...and he is far more dangerious that Goro, to face Shang Tsung is to face not one... but a legion of adversaries... REMEMBER THAT!"

Goro was a follower of shang tsung (I think) but if goro was champion then cage beat him.......he should be champ. I need time to think, this is an interesting theroy.

Yes, but lets remember Johnny Cage was Killed by Shao Kahn, so even if he was declared champion, it wouldn't make a bit of difference.

It would be pointless declaring Johnny Cage as champ as he was beaten by Shoa Khan.

Yeah he killed Goro then he was killed by Khan in the next movie. And by Kintaro in the game. BTW it's who wins the turnoment that is chanpion. Johnny is not the one that won. So in the movies Lui is champ and in the games we don't know cause Liu was killed and there's no word on who won yet.

Liu killed Khan yes, but that wasn't in the tournament so it didn't count.

The thing is, sure Goro was the champion...however he IS 2nd to Shang Tsung, the Tournament Master....if he decided to compete I would say only the person that defeats Shang Tsung is declared Champion, and that was Liu Kang. If Shang Tsung didn't compete, then Johnny Cage would be Champion.
