MortalKombat.com isn't run by Midway Games. It is, instead, run by Threshold Entertainment, the people behind the Mortal Kombat movies and TV series Conquest.
The last time I spoke to Chris, the site's webmaster, he said that he just didn't have time anymore and that the site probably wouldn't be updated anymore unless they found someone new.
You never know, though. It'll be the first place any info on the third MK movie shows up.

It's a shame, because MK.com has thousands of visitors daily, including myself, and I liked the website, but the people just didn't have enough time to keep it running!

It just goes to show how unorganized Threshold seems to be. 
Actually, I'm sure they're busy with other projects, so I'd just give it time.
