Incorrect answer Noob Saibot5 but I like you're thinking. You at least drove by the ballpark. You're thinking on the right track. Alas, arcade machines from those days (especially midway machines) don't use soundcards. Believe me I have a SFII machine and all the sounds are produced on a chip no card needed. But you have the right idea.

Was it decoded through a Sony SPC700 sound chip? If memory serves corectly, that was the main sound emulator of the ninties. And it decoded digital sound, which is what MK was famous for.
