i'm playing the novice arcade and i'm @ Onaga, but no matter what i do, i'm just not inflicting any damage on him....
does anyone have tips?

okay man, here is what you do. get your good fighter, get their biggest combo down real well. stay close to the objects at the corners of the stars, when he's close knock into one, when he is stunned hit him with your best combo, if he is in close on you, use your sweep move. once with baraka i killed him the whole round with the sweep move, he just wouldnt block it and kept taking it. remember stun then big combo. youll get him.

i just discovered something interesting, i was playing with kira and i used her move where she sprays dust in your eyes and paralzes you foe for a sec or two so that you can get a free hit, and it seems that whatever damage you do is halfed, not sure if this could be happening to you, should work the same with sub and others with moves like this one
also i think onaga has slightly higher defese then your average player

Yeah, I agree. I keep using Scorpion on him [Onaga] and failed countless times (until I beat him, that is) Then my friend used Liu Kang and Bicycle kicked him [Onaga] about 4 times. Haha lol. This maybe a glitch or something. The Bicycle kick on an average fighter would do little-medium damage. But when used on Onaga, hell, takes about 4 to beat him.

I've found that using a character's weapon works for me. get a character with a crazy powerful weapon (like Sindel), and hit him a few times, then back off, block... lather, rinse, repeat.
it may not work for you, but it did for me. =D

The first character I beat him with was Ermac. Use that move with the axe where you spin it around in a circle. There's actually a pretty good combo attached to that move. Combos and weapons are the key to beating him.

I picked Jade in beating the game and man she can inflic more damage to onaga! Guess Jade is some kind of amazon warrior lol

You're not supposed to do normal damage to Onaga by just going up to hit him. If you hit a kamidogu (those statue things with a floating ornament, on the ends of the arena), he becomes unable to attack for about 3 seconds, giving you time to go back and hit him for normal, instead of very little, damage. The effect wears off a few seconds later, however, so eventually you're back to square one. There are six kamidogus to wear him down with, so use them wisely. I'd suggest using 3 per round.
The point of this whole thing you have to go through to kill him is to encourage players to use powerful combos in battle. So if you use 3 kamidogus per round, and you hit him with around a 30% combo each time, you'll win easily (assuming you win the first two rounds). I know that only ends up being 90% in the long run, but he ends up dead anyway after the last blow.
