Yup, he killed Scorpion. Then Scorpion came back to kill him and since Scorpion was evil, Sub-Zero's soul turned evil and he became Noob Saibot.

I don't know the whole story myself because I don't have the game, but Noob Saibot is the Sub-Zero from MK1.
After he was killed by Scorpion his soul went to the Neatherealm and became Noob ... or something like that ...

Ok, basically:
Noob-Saibot, or Sub-Zero 5th killed Scorpion while searching for a map. Scorpion returned from the dead as a spectre and killed him in the Mortal Kombat tournement (MK1 game)
Sub-Zero returned as a wraith from the neatherealm with no sense of compassion.
After Shinnok's death (MK4) he became the leader of the neatherealm and in his MK Deception ending, kills his younger brother, Sub-Zero 6th (Sub-Zero from MK2 up) and uses Smoke as a template to start a new demon-cyborg army.

we are all aware that noob is the original sub-zero and sub-zero's bro. But, does the younger sub-zero know? 
Think about it. In noobs ending, it says that they had never met since noob became noob. and sub cud av folowd dem in da netherealm to find smoke, not noob. Theres no evidence dat sub knew noob especially if he attempts to kil him.

that could be a possibility but i reckon that subbie 2 found out during mk4, when rayden revealed that noob saibot had been tainted when he was killed by scorpion. its all explained in noobs mkd ending. i swear to god, noob being sub-zero was the BEST plot twist ever

Not everyone follows the story closely, I'm sure there are a lot of people who came into the game late in the story and never really heard some of the details. It's not like there's a little briefing when you start up the game that gives you a recap of every character's progression.

Noob is really the original sub-zero. we learn it in MK6
so Sub-zero 's MK1 and MK2 become Noob
but the producers didn't have his idea story in MK1,2,3
it's during producing MK Gold that they adopt his history for noob i think (see his fatality 1)
