I mean, I know that Taja and Tasia's names are spelled different, but they were both thieves, so is it possible that they are the same woman?

Its really hard to say since I never played MKSF...I strongly dislike Jax and Sonya.
If I were to make some sort of educated guess I would say that they aren't the same person for the obvious reason that the time lines for both MKSF and MKC are different.
Taja is around during the time of the original Kung Lao and though a thief, sorta turns to back towards the right by aiding Kung Lao. Now this whole time frame is AFTER Kung Lao beats Shang Tsung in the tournament, saving Earth and before his eventual defeat by Goro. Disregarding the MKC ending of course.
This Tasia, whom I really know nothing about, nor the REAL time frame for MKSF, takes place a little before MK1 or MK2. In any case, the original Kung Lao is dead and so is Taja. I don't know if Tasia went straight at the end of MKSF, but I'm gonna assume if shes a Black Dragon she was weeded out with the rest of them in the game.
Ultimately, while its an interesting thought to think that these people are one in the same, I think the timeline speaks for itself. But I can only imagine Midway drawing on one of their less than canon franchises for help in the name department.
