Yea I thought the mouth styled mask looked pretty cool. But when it comes to the story whats with the statue...

Here is what I think: Maybe the Movie version of Reptile is a kind of parasite which need a host for a body. Maybe it wasn't a human body Reptile used, but it was close enough... I mean maybe the little lizard form of Reptile is his real form, but he fights, he needs a body to use.
