When you save things as .gif it tends to fuck up the image quality.
Save it as .png , it will get rid of that white stuff, most IE users won't be able to see it though, they'll get a grey box around the bg. But hell, most of todays users are starting to use firefox.
Save as .png...

You can still use gifs and not and not have the white stuff problem if you know what you're doing. I don't have those problems.
