But Rain really never betrayed Kahn. You can find him in Conquest, in Edenia. And he tries to catch Jade and Sindel. And the ´Edenia part´ takes place during MK:DA/D (Tanya works for Onaga, Sindel is good, everybady talks about Kahn´s army, or about deadly alliance). So Rain is evil during MK:DA, which means he never betrayed Kahn.

Here is my story I created for Rain long time ago:
Rain joined Sindel´s army as a general. Onaga attacked Edenia and Sindel ordered Rain to defend Edenia at any cost. But then... Shao Kahn returned. Rain had to choose- should he defend his homeland, or should he go to Outworld and kill man who had killed his father long time ago (Kahn)?
Ending: Rain left Edenia, went to Outworld and killed Kahn. But when he returned home, he wasn´t welcomed. Queen Sindel was very angry because he betrayed Edenia. Rain escaped and went to Outworld again. He didn´t know what to do. He hid in Shao Kahn´s palace and then he realised that there is now no emperor of Outworld. So he became new Emperor of Outworld- first good emperor of Outworld.

Its good. For my story, Rain's ending would be:
As instructed, Rain and Jade made they're way to the Wastelands along with the armies of Edenia. In a shower of blood and steel, the Edenian soldiers slaughtered Shao Khan's army. However, Jade was severly wounded from the fight, and was taken to medical care. As the single general of Sindel's armies, Rain lead the assault into Khan's fortress, leading an attack on Khan himself. In a burst of rage, Rain fought and slew Shao Khan, ending his reign of tyranny once and for all. Khan's defeat lead to restoration of Outworld, as Queen Sindel claimed Outworld as her own. Rain would forever be known throughout the realms as one of Mortal Kombats biggest hereos.

Why should Rain return? After all it was Jade in MK Deception that killed Rain on his way to do sneak attacks for Shao Kahn on the Edenian Freedom Fighters.

if i remember correctly Rain turned against Kahn after learning (from kitana) that when Kahn invaded Edenia he killed his father (some warrior a good one too i suppose) Later Rain snuck out of Edenia but he was caught up to by Kahn and forced him to join Khans army or die, Rain being the smart one he is, joined kahns army.
His ending tells of him goin on a suicide mission to kill kahn.
so this will tell you RAIN IS NOT SIDED WITH KAHN!! and more than likely allied with Kitana so with that put your thoughts of an evil Rain away.

Exactly. Rain would have an excellent storyline if they simply added him into the games but for some reason Midway are just shellin out the shit fighters *SNEEZE kobra dairou shujinko drahmin moloch SNEEZE* and not bringin back the classics

You have to remember why they are bringing in new fighters. The new blood they hope will inject life into the series. What they should do is make more of a story mode closer to SSB:M story mode imo. You move along fight some nonplus enemies. And every so often fight a real fighter. I feel the Story mode that they use right now, is too open. Too rpg-ish. In a fighter, I want a story that goes from point a to point c, and depending on how well you do, have a few branches inbetween. This also opens up wonderful opportunites. Cutscenes before battles, Mutliple paths yet still feeling like a fighting game, and definite beginning and ending parts. Almost like a Shaolin Monks style. (I haven't played it yet, but I've played God of war, and I like the concept.) Except that at prime character fights it turns into a complete fighting game system.
They should actually decide beforehand what the next MK will be about. Then they could solidify their cannon and decide who gets what ending. Not "mysterious never endings." But alas, they won't do that. Instead it seems to almost be recycled material anymore. I'd love Rain to be in the next one. I think there's a lot of opportunity for storyline about a shang tsung character that is multi-souled by vote.
Unfortunately, I've seen what they've done to noob/smoke. And I hold little hope for them.

Technically his UMK3 ending could still be true. It says he went on a suicide mission to prove his loyalty to the earthrealm warriors. He could have pretended to and they believed he was killed whereas he simply went back to fighting for Kahn. It never says he actually died in his ending as I recall.
And (as I'm sure most of you know already...) He is working for Kahn to crush the Edenian resistance and restore the realm to being part of Outworld.
I believe when he went to prove his "loyalty" to Kitana and all of them, that he indeed wasn't part of their movement but was simply spying on them for Shao Kahn, and thus went back to aid his master. But of couse, Kahn looses and Rain returns to Outworld with the rest of Kahn's forces.
That, or, he attempted to defeat Kahn and lost, and then surrendered himself once again to the Emperor of Outworld. Either way, I consider him on the "dark side" of things.
As I see it, the ninja's statuses are:
Scorpion - Neutral
Sub-Zero - Good guys
Reptile - Bad guys or lost/neutral (I don't know if he's dead after MK6)
Rain - Bad guys (Working for Kahn)
Ermac - Good guys
Smoke - Neutral or Bad (bad in the sense of working for Noob Saibot)
Noob - Bad guy in his own way. (Making an army of Machine-Demons.

i surrpose he has got a bit of a point tho rain would have a good story line to add to the MK universe but how ever what about the other warriors that have been left aside such as montoro and others would they come back or would they be left out.
midway could even makeup new fighters and blend them in and as some people would put it lame story lines as well.
