I think you're all forgetting something important. The victors of Mortal Kombat DO NOT AGE until the next tournement. Any aging that has occuring in Sub-Zero is probably due to the fact the Dragon Medallion has affected his appearance. Cyborgs will never age. Everyone else is either reborn from the dead or won't age due to the fact the tournement granted them non-aging until the next tournement.
And as for Smoke, I'd always imagined him as friends with only the 6th Sub-Zero (the one we know today, not MK1 Sub) and he was turned into a robot when he was MAYBE in his 30's or something.
As for the whole controlling him thing. Even though he discovered he had a soul in MK3 and was able to disobey, Noob is a wraith from the Neatherrealm, he probably was able to use some kind of spell to control Smoke. But what I think more than likely happened was Smoke ended up using his soul to overcome Noob's powers and defeat him with the aid of Sub-Zero.

But hear my theory. Smoke obeyed Noob Saibot because he was friends with him while he was Sub-Zero, he must have picked up something familiar from Noob that he remembered from the first Sub-Zero. But when he realised that Noob was no longer Sub-Zero, the damage was already done, he had killed sub-Zero.

Since when were all participants granted immortality until the next tournament?
BTW, In all the MK games there has only been one Tournament. MK1.
MK2: Oddessy in Outworld.
MK3: Invatsion of the Soul People
UMK3: Invasion of the Fan Vote
MK4: The 2000 US Election
MKG: Bush Wins
MK DA: Death of the Kang
MK D: When Idiots Rule
So, as far as I see, there's only been one tournament.

i think some of you are forgetin some story in your posts.
Remeber how smoke was shut down at the end of MKT? he was considered a war trophy thats all.

hen Noob found him and turned him on.
During the time he turned smoke back online he did somethign to his programming making him easier to control.
Let us also remember noob-smokes ending may not be cannon. Also remember that Noob is the original Sub-Zero, even though theres no proof sayin that Smoke new the origianl sub-zero chances are they did, there for he was an influence on Cyber smoke.

That's one of the rules of the tournament. Whoever wins is granted "immortality" (not aging) until the next tournament so they can again participate in it. That is how the original Kung Lao was able to defeat Shang Tsung until the next tournement came when he fought Goro but was defeated. Note that when he fought Goro he was the same age and strength from when he'd defeated Shang Tsung in the last tournament.

This is from Mortal Kombat - The Journey Begins, but I've heard it somewhere else. This is so the victor can train the next batch of fighters for the next tournament.

I'm aware of this, but it explains why through all that time the characters never seem to grow any older. (Sub-Zero looks a bit older but that is a result of the Dragon Medallion)

You misunderstood my question Amphibious. And you misunderstood the rules of the tournament. Only the Victor is granted immortality. That's Liu Kang. And He's dead. The rest should be aging right along with Subby. The other games aren't the official Tournament. So it negates the whole wins argument. Not only that, I don't think there's been a clear winner since the First game. So I'll grant Kang Immortality. Since that is what is stated in the rules he beat Goro. But kang's dead. Nobody else has won the tournament. So they should be aging. And the Tournament only happens once a generation. A generation is an average of 20 years. So it is either only 1996 in the MK world on the long shot, or else, They have seriously messed up the story.

Well the good thing is, is that most of our favorite characters are in their late twenties and early thirties by now. However, most of the other characters are ageless or take a long time to age.
